Trump speaks about American education and history at the National Archives last September
On Friday, April 9, Brian Cates, an American writer from South Texas, published an opinion piece in the English-language Epoch Times detailing how the left’s “culture of abolition” movement is increasing its control over the speech of the American public. He also discusses the response of American conservatives to this.
The following is a translation of his article.
In a speech on Mount Rushmore on July 4, 2019, former President Donald Trump (Trump) made it clear that he is well aware of the plans of the increasingly extreme American radical left to change the foundations of American culture.
Standing in front of statues of some of America’s greatest presidents, Trump told the American people, “1776 represents the culmination of thousands of years of Western civilization and represents the triumph not only of the spirit, but of intellect, philosophy and reason.
“Yet, as we gather here tonight, increasing dangers threaten all the well-being for which our ancestors fought and bled and died. Our nation is facing a brutal campaign to annihilate our history, destroy our heroes, erase our values and indoctrinate our children with their ideas.
“Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our founders, deface our most sacred memorials and unleash waves of violent crime in our cities. Many of them don’t know why they are doing it, but some know what they are doing.”
“They think the American people are weak, soft and submissive. Not so, the American people are strong and proud and they will not allow our country and all its values, history and culture to be taken from them.
“One of the political weapons of the mob is to abolish culture, force people out of work, shame dissidents, and demand submission from anyone who disagrees. That is the definition of totalitarianism, which is completely at odds with our culture and values and has absolutely no place in America.”
However, the events of the past few months suggest that Trump may have underestimated the threat. The election results seem to have been blatantly stolen from him, and then the so-called “culture of cancellation of the Awakened Ones” continues to grow geometrically and continues to quietly extend its claws to new victims.
Even Americans who deliberately turn a deaf ear to all political news must now take notice, as even The Big Frog Muppet Show and Dr. Seuss have recently clashed with these radicals.
Nor is it just the mainstream media or the big tech social media platforms that are now trying to turn the American public discourse square into a one-talk shop for the radical left by driving conservatives into the wilderness.
Internet services are eliminating gun sites. Donation sites and payment processors (such as GoFundMe and Patreon) are driving out customers trying to raise money for conservative organizations and causes. At the same time, these Internet services are leaving accounts that raise money for the “bloody revolution” as long as they are properly left-leaning.
Tracy Beanz, an independent investigative journalist and editor-in-chief of the magazine UncoverDC, recently had her account canceled by the fundraising platform Patreon after Rolling Stone magazine positioned her as a so-called “influencer” in the Anonymous movement. “influencer” in the Anonymous movement. In fact, that was a misnomer.
As another example, I have not voluntarily left Twitter since I joined in 2012, where I have gained 270,000 followers. Like millions of others, I was permanently banned for spreading “election disinformation” in January of this year.
I had just created a new account on the alternative social media site Parler when it was suddenly disconnected by Amazon Web Services.
Parler’s plight is a huge wake-up call to American conservatives
In the wake of Parler’s plight, it was revealed that the company would not have any private server network or any backup capabilities once Amazon shut it down. This appears to have led directly to the forced departure of former Peller CEO John Matze in early February. Matze is now suing the Pyle executive board over his dismissal.
Radio host and Peller investor Dan Bongino addressed the controversy in a video, talking about several “bad decisions” made early in Peller’s existence that led directly to this major setback.
It is clear that any conservative author or website that relies on a large canceled cultural company to access the Internet is vulnerable to censorship.
What happened at Pyle is a huge wake-up call for American conservatives. Some have already begun to react to this threat.
The first step in protecting the right of all Americans to access the national square of public discourse is to elect effective political leadership that understands the fight back against the culture of cancellation and how to win that fight.
An example of fighting back: America First – GAPP
As a good example of the people’s involvement in this critical battle, America First activist Alex Phillips launched the Great American Patriot Project (GAPP) with the specific purpose of electing public officials who will act on behalf of conservatives and their place in the American public square of discourse.
In its Mission Statement, GAPP writes: “To support vetted patriotic candidates running for state and federal office in accordance with regular Republican Party rules, and to support the development and promotion of policies, programs and candidates that are inherently patriotic/America First and the removal of establishment Republican politicians at the state and federal level.”
American Priority, known for its annual AMPfest conservative conference held each October at Trump’s Sea Lake estate in Miami, Florida, has invested in building an effective network to find, support and elect candidates for local state and federal office.
One of the biggest problems in recent years has been that there have been some candidates who have taken advantage of the soaring Conservative/American Recovery movement to get elected. Once they get to Washington or the governor’s office, or the national legislature, they are quick to turn on the voters. Therefore, there must be a more consistent vetting process to ensure that this does not continue to happen.
America First, so to speak, is stepping into the shoes of the Great American Patriot Project (GAPP) and working to organize conservatives and put thoroughly vetted candidates in office. They will not only engage in a war of words with the radical left, they will take real action to fight it.
GAPP is a multifaceted package that can deal with both the political elite’s political tactics of implementing a culture of abolition and getting paralyzed courts and law enforcement back into operation so that conservatives can avoid scrutiny and isolation.
GAPP’s primary focus: replacing incompetent political leadership
The sad truth is that too many right-wing political leaders have failed us in the past few years. They talk a good game, but every time they get to the point of action, they back off.
In Washington, Senators and House representatives were content to subpoena Twitter’s Jack Dorsey, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Google’s Sundar Pinchas for numerous dramatic congressional hearings. Distinguished members of Congress shouted and grabbed cameras, only to have nothing substantive change happen afterwards.
The culture of cancellation continues full speed ahead while Congress takes no action and remains the same even after Trump’s call to rescind Section 230 (the FCC regulation that has been used to justify increasingly stringent censorship).
The focus of America First’s GAPP will be to change this pattern of inaction and retreat by finding, running and supporting American Patriot candidates for political office at the local, state and federal levels. These candidates will do more than just get in front of the cameras and attract attention when it comes to resisting the culture of abolition; they will enforce existing laws and create new laws to protect the speech of all Americans.
After seeing all the crazy antics of the radical left over the past few years, the American people will have to get involved if they want to make real change because the radical left has made substantial progress on its radical agenda. Passivity and standing by is no longer an option.
GAPP is a good start and a positive sign that many people recognize the challenge and are working to meet it.
