Biden’s defense budget increased by only 1.7%, Republicans say it is difficult to resist Chinese Communist Party

U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Friday (9) after taking office the first budget, worth about 1.5 trillion U.S. dollars (about 11.7 trillion Hong Kong dollars). The defense budget accounts for $753 billion (about $5.87 trillion), an increase of only 1.7 percent, Republicans are dissatisfied with the increase is too small, directly to allies and rivals such as the Chinese Communist Party and Russia to send a dangerous message, questioning whether Biden has the intention to counterbalance the Chinese Communist Party.

The total defense budget for the coming year is only a slight increase of $12.3 billion (about HK$95.9 billion) over the current fiscal year, with the Pentagon accounting for $715 billion (about HK$5.58 trillion), saying it will use the appropriation to prioritize the challenges from the Chinese Communist Party; the non-defense budget is up a whopping 16 percent to $769 billion (about HK$6 trillion). The defense budget is far below the 3% to 5% increase requested by Republicans. Senate Minority Leader McConnell, Rubio, Graham, Yinhoefe, Shelby and other Republicans sent a joint letter criticizing Biden for putting the liberal wish list at the top of the list and ignoring U.S. military spending needs, which would fail to counteract the Chinese Communist Party, which intends to replace the United States.

The lawmakers pointed out that the Chinese Communist Party’s military spending has increased by a whopping $200 billion (about $1.56 trillion) over the past 10 years, while the U.S. has decreased by $400 billion (about $3.12 trillion). The Chinese Communist Party’s military investment is in line with its ambition to surpass the U.S. and put the U.S. military at risk, pointing out that the increase in military spending decided by Biden does not even keep up with inflation. They said that if the defense budget could keep pace with domestic spending, the Chinese Communist Party would have no chance of replacing the United States.
