Stabbing bully to death gets 8 years in prison: I can’t get my life back

In Fuchuan City, Guizhou Province, Chen Sihan appeared in front of the reporter.

With sunken cheekbones and a thin body, the man in front of him is one meter eight and weighs only 110 pounds. He is quiet, gentle, speaks in a low voice, never interrupting when others are talking.

Earlier, he stabbed the “bully” to death and was sentenced to eight years. Today (April 8), the 21-year-old ended his parole and completed the formalities, meaning he was officially released from prison.

Previously: Spitting in the powder

At that time, Chen Sihan went to school in urnan county four middle school, reading junior high school. He has excellent grades, often tested in the top ten of the class, “according to his grades, the Chinese examination can certainly be on the urnan a middle school. “

His family is from Fuquan, boarding in urnan second uncle’s house.

On April 30, 2014, Chen Sihan woke up a little late, and for fear of being marked late, he didn’t even have time to eat breakfast and flew all the way to school.

After his morning study session, he went to the cafeteria to get ready for some breakfast. Who would have thought that trouble would come to him at this time.

The boy in front of him always stepped on him with his foot when he was in line to buy flour, “at first I thought it was crowded and he stepped on it accidentally, but he stepped on it several times in a row. I asked why, the other party replied, ‘I like to step on, so step on.’ “

Chen Sihan pushed the boy away, did not think, the other side of a punch, followed by the next seven or eight people also on him fist and foot, has been knocked down on the table. Until the cafeteria aunt stopped, several people dispersed.

The lead boy is called Li Xiaodong, often mixed with a school named Jin Wei. Chen Sihan’s classmates have said that the “school bullies” often randomly choose people to beat up in order to establish prestige, and Chen was just one of the chosen ones.

After being beaten, Chen Sihan continued to stand in line to buy powder, but the batterers didn’t stop there. Li Xiaodong asked him to stay after school, and Jin Wei punched him in the head and spit in his powder while he was eating it.

The next big recess, the assailant came back and gave another beating.

“I was standing in the corridor, Li Xiaodong saw me and rushed up with a group of people, first said a few words, and then began to beat me, from our class 6 all the way to class 8, and then beat me to the door of the women’s room, and then pulled me to the men’s room on the next floor, the whole time without stopping. “

Chen Sihan used “only despair” to describe the mood at that time. Later, the class bell temporarily saved him.

According to the verdict, at noon after school, Li Xiaodong and Jin Wei told Chen Sihan that both sides (Li Xiaodong and Chen Sihan) would take a knife to kill each other in the afternoon.

After returning home, Chen kept his head down and his uncle and aunt thought he had not done well in his exams, but because he was in a hurry to eat wine, they did not notice the bruises on his body.

In the cousin, cousin repeatedly asked, he told the original story. His cousin suggested going to the teacher, and he said he would be bullied worse. His cousin said he would come to pick him up in the afternoon and told him not to leave the school.

Chen Sihan’s mother, Li Ronghui, recalled, “His cousin and his cousin were studying in high school, and they both grew up as good students, with gentler personalities than Sihan, and they had never experienced this kind of thing at all, and they didn’t think things would be so serious at that time. “

Mutual killing: stabbed with serious injuries second degree

This day is the last day before the “May Day” holiday, the afternoon, the school early dismissal.

The court of first instance found that Chen Sihan walked to a milk tea store in front of the school after school and was forced by Li Xiaodong and Jin Wei to go to the nearby Tiger Eagle Beer City. At the same time Chen Sihan called his cousin, Li Xiaodong and others then said to wait until 5:30 p.m., “to see what your cousin came to do. “

At 5:30 p.m., Chen Sihan’s cousin did not come, so Li Xiaodong pulled Chen Sihan to the C area of Huazhu Park. At this time, He Han, a student of urnan four high school, took the opportunity to hand Chen Sihan a card knife on his body, and Chen left handed it and put it in his clothes bag.

For this paragraph, Chen Sihan’s confession and the court found different. He said that someone took his left hand and put something in his pocket at that time. “At that time I had no idea what he had stuffed, and took it out to see that it was a knife. I just hurriedly put the knife behind my butt, afraid that they would see it and think I was going to kill them. “

The verdict mentions that Li Xiaodong pulled Chen Sihan inside the C area of Huazhu Park and beat him up. Then, Chen Sihan killed Li Xiaodong in the chest with the card knife and ran away.

Li Xiaodong picked up the knife and chased after him, and when he reached the gate of the power supply bureau’s charge point in Hua Zhu Yuan C, he fell to the ground. Jin Wei and other people carried Li to urnan Dare Hospital to resuscitation, identified by doctors have died. Forensic identification, Li Xiaodong is acute large blood loss death caused by acute rupture of the heart aorta with sharp objects.

At the same time, Chen Sihan ran to the security post in the middle street of urnan county to ask for help and was sent to Mingkang Hospital for treatment. Chen Sihan’s injury was identified by the forensic medical examination of the Public Security Bureau of urnan County as a sharp injury, constituting a second degree of serious injury. Later, the forensic forensic identification center of Guiyang Medical College re-identified Chen Sihan’s injuries as minor injuries.

Chen only remembered that Li Xiaodong jumped up and stabbed at him with a knife. The first time he blocked it with his left hand, the other party swung the knife again. “I this time hands up to block, and then run backwards. “

He said he didn’t dare to look back during the run, what he didn’t know was that Li Xiaodong was stabbed in the chest by the knife he held in his hand while blocking, and fell in a pool of blood after chasing a few dozen meters.

Chen Sihan’s back was also pierced by Lee with a knife, he covered the wound with his hand and ran away for nearly a kilometer in one breath until he saw his cousin and breathed a sigh of relief. His cousin took him to the police and then rushed him to the hospital.

While in the hospital, the doctor issued a critical care notice and the chest X-ray report showed that Chen Sihan’s left lung was compressed by about seventy-five percent. Recalling her son’s escape from death, Li Rong Hui is teary-eyed, “The first thing he said when he woke up was, ‘Mom, I don’t know how I escaped. ‘ “

After passing the danger period, Chen Sihan was released from the hospital on bail. During this time, he kept trying to go to school. When his health improved, the police agreed to the request, but later asked not to go back to school for safety reasons.

The verdict: eight years, $152,000

After the incident, two mediation sessions during the first trial ended in failure for Chen Sihan.

The first trial started, Chen Sihan apologized to the family of the deceased, the other party did not accept, the trial ended. A few months later, he received the verdict and was sentenced to eight years in prison.

The judge said the word eight years, my whole body is limp, there is no place to use force, including the seal, they used my hand to cover up, they can not move. The first time I received the verdict, Chen Sihan still could not let go of it.

The court of first instance also found that the defendant Chen Sihan knew that the consequences of injury would occur in a fight with the victim Li Xiaodong, and at the invitation of Li Xiaodong and others, he also prepared a card knife on his body. When Li Xiaodong beat Chen Sihan with his fists and feet, he first pulled out the card knife and stabbed Li Xiaodong. The other party then pulled out a knife to kill each other. The court found that Chen Sihan had the subjective motive and intent to pursue harming the other party.

In a civil suit, the family of the deceased sued Chen Sihan and the knife hander. Chen Sihan was concerned that the classroom teacher would be implicated and asked his parents not to sue the school, so the Chen family only applied to add Jin Wei and others as defendants to share the civil liability.

The final verdict was that Jin Wei and the knife hander paid $87,000 each and Chen Sihan paid $152,000, of which $110,000 was given to the family the night of the incident.

The remaining 40,000 yuan, the mother Li Rong Hui said she did not want to give.

She said, “In 2017, the unregistered called and said that if the balance was not paid, he would not be able to reduce his sentence. I really do not want to give, my family is poor on the one hand, their attitude is the other. “

Of course, they still gave.

Father Chen Shankun said, “We also looked at his family that way, and know that his family is also in a very bad situation. I sympathize with them, but their attitude, I did not expect. “

Life: the trajectory has been changed

Since then, Chen Shankun couple continued to appeal for their son, the second trial still upheld the original verdict.

Chen Sihan’s defense lawyer Lin Lihong said earlier in a media interview that the case is not only a typical case of self-defense, but also presents one of the most tragic endings of school violence.

She said, “I went out of my way just because he represents too many people. “

After 2,269 days of waiting, Chen Sihan was granted parole and left the unregistered facility on Aug. 25, 2020.

Talking about the change of sentence and self-defense, he did not react too much, “If the sentence is changed, it will be good, I will be able to walk down the street with my chest up, and I will have a good account to everyone. “

But he also said, “Even if the sentence is changed, I can’t go back on the track of my life. I’m still inside for so long, I still haven’t gone to college, still haven’t enjoyed life, just to say there is no case. “

Conversation with the parties

[1] desperate, because the other side too many people

Reporter: inside the school have heard of Li Xiaodong?

Chen Sihan: I don’t know him, but I know the gang of them. Because they often fight at school, but I never thought I would get into trouble with them. We had 18 classes at that time, and there were both good and bad students in each class. Li Xiaodong’s class was not on the same floor as ours.

Reporter: How did it happen that day?

Chen Sihan: In the morning in the cafeteria, when I was in line for powder, he was in front of me and kept stepping on my feet, I did not know why, so I asked why, he said he liked to step, I did not say anything. Then they pushed him, and seven or eight of them came over to beat me.

I really didn’t know who he was at the time, but simply asked why he stepped on me. I did not think he was outside the mix, he stepped on me, I have also been holding back not to say anything. At that time, I thought it might be someone in front of the line, there are more people, others backed up, and accidentally stepped on. But he stepped on a few feet in a row, I asked the question.

Reporter: If you know what they are, will you still go up and ask?

Chen Sihan: Even if I knew, I don’t think I would have thought so much about it. Because he stepped on me, not me, I simply asked why he stepped on me, to anyone who might ask.

Reporter: Did a teacher come to stop it?

Chen Sihan: No, it was a cafeteria aunt who stopped it. I was beaten by them and leaned on the stool, so she shouted at them not to fight, and some other students pulled them away.

Reporter: What was the mood at that time?

Chen Sihan: Desperate, because there were too many people on the other side. The recess was quite long, 25 minutes. I went to the corridor to stand for a while, and he rushed up with a group of people and said a few words first, I don’t remember what they said.

Then a group of people rushed up and beat me, from our class 6 to class 8, then to the entrance of the girls’ bathroom, and then pulled me to the boys’ bathroom on the next floor, without stopping the whole time. I was late to school in the afternoon, and only arrived at the classroom when the bell rang, deliberately avoiding them.

Reporter: Why did you eat at school in the morning?

Chen Sihan: Because I got up late and didn’t buy breakfast. I went to eat breakfast only after morning study. It just so happened that a friend of mine brought me a canteen nutrition coupon and told me to go to the canteen to eat.

Reporter: Did you talk to your family about this at noon?

Chen Sihan: I talked to my cousins about it, but they hadn’t experienced it and didn’t know what to do, so they said they would pick me up after school. The next day was the May Day holiday, but I didn’t expect that we wouldn’t attend the last class.

Reporter: Why didn’t you talk to your teacher?

Chen Sihan: At that time, we all know that even if you go to tell the teacher, you only get temporary protection, but after a while he will come back to you, and will become more aggressive. Because you go to tell the teacher, he will certainly be criticized and educated, and he will come to you.

2] The wound is very cold, the blood is like a spring gushing out

Reporter: Do you still think about it now?

Chen Sihan: It has been in my heart for so many years, it is impossible to forget. And this thing has such a big impact on me, it is impossible to say that there is no thought at all, but only to say that try not to think.

Reporter: What do you think now?

Chen Sihan: regret, because that day I but a little early to eat a meal, not to go to the cafeteria will not happen this kind of thing.

Reporter: Do you remember how long you ran for?

Chen Sihan: I think I ran for five or six minutes, about one kilometer. At that time, all I could think of was to run quickly. I jumped over the heads of two children and the green belt.

Reporter: Did you think about taking a break from the wind and not going to school?

Chen Sihan: No, at that time, I still thought I would go because the exams would be held in 20 days. In fact, I have not thought of any good solution until now, otherwise it would not have been possible for so many things to happen.

Reporter: How does it feel to be injured?

Chen Sihan: It’s cold, it feels like the location of the wound on the back is always cold. The lungs were bubbling and bubbling inside, feeling like spring water gushing out, breathing once. At that time, I was running, breathing rapidly, and I felt that blood was flowing outside all the time, and my clothes were red. The phone was full of blood, how to wipe can not be wiped, the phone can not call, and then it was easy to open. And then I met my brother on the road.

Reporter: Did you think about the end of yourself at that time?

Chen Sihan: I was scared, but I didn’t think about dying, at least I could still run at that time, but it was really hard.

Reporter: How did you get stabbed?

Chen Sihan: Li Xiaodong suddenly jumped up and stabbed me in the back with a knife in his right hand, but I used my left hand to block him, so I didn’t kill him. Then his clothes were torn by me, and he came up again. I blocked up with my hand and then ran backwards.

I ran nearly a kilometer, in the security post opposite the road channel to meet my brother, take his cell phone to the police. Then I went across the street to the police post and spoke to the officer before taking me to the hospital.

I was sitting there around 6:00 after stitches, still uncomfortable. At that time, before lying down, the police pulled me for questioning, I told them, now can not speak. They surrounded me, recorded me, and asked me to say something. Because the doctor who took the CT was not there, so I went to the film after half an hour, and at this time the doctor determined that I was killed through.

Reporter: Were you still conscious during this half hour?

Chen Sihan: Yes, I felt very uncomfortable and couldn’t speak. I felt very uncomfortable breathing, and the wound was hot and cold for a while. In retrospect, it was actually the feeling of dying, but I didn’t think I would die.

[3] That is the smallest of the five knives

Reporter: After the surgery, what did you say when you woke up and saw your parents?

Chen Sihan: I don’t remember a lot of things, and I don’t remember what I said. Ever since the surgery, my memory has been very bad.

In fact, when I first saw my parents, they were in a coma. One moment I felt awake, and the next I felt asleep. Anyway, I woke up completely around 1:00 or 2:00 am the next morning. They were talking at my bedside, I could just see them but couldn’t hear them.

Reporter: How were your injuries when you were discharged from the hospital?

Chen Sihan: When he arrived at the detention center, he was not completely well, he felt that it was very cold inside, and he was still shivering after spending most of the year there. As long as I talk, my whole body shivers and trembles.

I will run in the detention center, and slowly get better. I would do push-ups every day, but not too many, and if my diaphragm was puckered, it would be especially uncomfortable and painful. I had a lot of pain, then went to the hospital, the doctor said it was not lung pain, it was the nerve pain on the upper side.

Reporter: How did you get the knife?

Chen Sihan: He Han gave it to me, he was from another class, I didn’t know him. At that time in the class they found me and said if I didn’t go out they would kick me every ten seconds. Later they dragged me to the alley of Hua Zhu Yuan C, and He Han handed me something to put in my pocket.

At that time I had no idea what he was stuffing, and took it out to see that it was a knife. I hurriedly put the knife to the back of the buttocks, afraid to be seen by them think I want to kill. This time Li Xiaodong killed up, at that time did not expect to have a knife in his hand, just subconsciously stretch out his left hand to block.

Reporter: Have you ever asked He Han for a knife?

Chen Sihan: I never asked. If I had this idea from the beginning, why didn’t I prepare myself, why did I ask who had a knife for me after school? And I could have bought it myself after school, so why did I have to ask him for a knife?

Reporter: Do you remember what that knife looked like?

Chen Sihan: No, later the police asked me to testify, I could not even recognize it. He told me that the knife I used was the smallest of the five knives at the scene of the testimony, and I was confused. Then I pointed to the knife and took a picture.

4] Knowing that he died, my tears fell down

Reporter: Almost seven years have passed, can you let go of it?

Chen Sihan: More self-blame, regret. If I had been a little calmer that day, or if I had gotten up a little earlier, a lot of things might not have happened.

I had no memory of Li Xiaodong, I didn’t even know what he looked like, I didn’t even see him clearly at that time. I didn’t even know what he looked like, I didn’t even see him clearly at that time. His name was only known after the arraignment, I didn’t know him at all before.

Reporter: Did you deliberately forget, or did you really never see what he looked like?

Chen Sihan: When I was lying in the hospital, I couldn’t remember what he looked like. I only knew that he was a little shorter than me, and then he had long hair, and his face was like a fog in my memory. Including that day I heard that someone had died over there, I thought he had stabbed the people who were there, or my classmates, and never thought it was him who died.

Reporter: How did you feel when you found out he had died?

Chen Sihan: especially sad, because he had invariably become a murderer, tears fell directly down.

Reporter: How did you think you would be sentenced?

Chen Sihan: I didn’t think the sentence would be as severe as eight years. At that time, I didn’t know much about it, but some guards who knew the situation told me that the maximum sentence would be three to five years.

Reporter: Was it scary to know that you would be imprisoned?

Chen Sihan: I had heard about the life in an unregulated facility, and I was really scared.

At that time, there was still a month before the midterm exams, and then something happened. I didn’t want to get into trouble, because I was about to take the midterm exams, and if you are given a pass on your school record, it will follow you. So there was no thought of a conflict with him.

Reporter: After being locked up, what was your mood?

Chen Sihan: I was very scared. I was very scared in the detention center and the prison. However, I was not bullied inside, and almost all of them were friendly to me.

Reporter: What are the criteria for sentence reduction inside?

Chen Sihan: Points are added and deducted, some labor will be added, and points will be deducted if it is not completed. They used to give praise once a month, but later it became once every six months. I have been praised every time, so my sentence was reduced.

Reporter: What are the requirements for parole?

Chen Sihan: In addition to the eight major crimes, the sentence of 10 years or less can be paroled. The requirement is to serve more than half of your sentence, but basically you have to serve two-thirds of your total sentence. Because of a commendation, it seems that only six months can be credited, originally I could get out in 2019, but the criminal law was changed, so it was delayed until last year before parole.

[5] I was paralyzed on the floor when I learned that I was sentenced to 8 years

Reporter: I heard that your classmates wrote a joint letter for you?

Chen Sihan: In addition to the joint letter, they also sent me more than 100 letters. I was very touched by the letters they wrote to me continuously over the past few years, encouraging me and sharing with me the people and things they encountered in their studies and lives.

In that isolated situation, there was no way to communicate with the outside world, so I had to rely on letters to express some feelings. In those years, whether it was family members, classmates or friends, they would write to each other, and these letters were a kind of solace.

When I first went in, it was really hard to accept, especially on the day the sentence was handed down, my whole body was numb. When he said the word eight years, my whole body directly paralyzed. I couldn’t use any of my strength, including the seal, they used my hand to stamp it on, I couldn’t move at all.

Reporter: How did you feel when some friends wrote to you that they had gotten into college?

Chen Sihan: I was happy for them, but I was very disappointed when I thought about my own situation. They sometimes came to see me and cheered me on, so I’m really grateful to them.

Reporter: What are your thoughts on the case?

Chen Sihan: When I was in the detention center, I honestly didn’t think about it, because it was really hard. When I saw my parents running for me, I sometimes thought that I should just let it go and didn’t want them to work so hard. At that time, I really felt that the chances were not good, and my parents were still running for me every day, and it hurt.

Reporter: Is there anything that impresses you in the detention center?

Chen Sihan: Nothing really, I was basically on my own. I was impressed by the officers who helped me. Every child who was admitted to the detention center, they would understand what mistakes he had made. When I first got in, I was really confused, and they helped me a lot, so I’m very grateful to them for that.

Reporter: Do your parents say hello in advance when they come to visit you in the detention center?

Chen Sihan: There is no way to greet them in advance, so they just live day by day. Every month, I look forward to my parents’ visits.

Reporter: Do you remember the first visit?

Chen Sihan: When I saw my parents, I felt they had aged a lot and I cried during the first visit. They seldom cried during the visit because they were afraid of bringing negative emotions to me.

Reporter: Do you write letters often?

Chen Sihan: I write often, but not every month. On my parents’ side, they call home once a month on the phone.

[6] It’s a relief, a feeling of liberation

Reporter: What did you think the day you got out on parole?

Chen Sihan: It’s hard to express that kind of thought, not that kind of happy emotion, but more of a relief.

Reporter: What has changed in your mindset during the past six months of parole?

Chen Sihan: The environment is different and the mentality is definitely different. Inside, life is the same every day. After I got out, I thought about a lot of things, and I thought about all kinds of things.

Now I think there is a chance that the complaint will be successful, but I don’t hold all the hopes. I definitely want to, after all, affect my life in the future, but some things are unforeseeable.

Reporter: Your mother said you are not as optimistic as before?

Chen Sihan: There is definitely an impact, but for a better life, you still have to continue to face. It’s not realistic to forget, so you have to be positive.

Reporter: What do you do every day after you go home?

Chen Sihan: I play the guitar, except in winter, I play all the time. There is a music class inside the detention center, I learned in 2017, in addition to the guitar also learn saxophone. Every day, we write and read books. We worked during the day, and at night it was free time. Others are playing, I will go to learn something, and so is the time to play out of learning.

Reporter: When are you most relaxed now?

Chen Sihan: When it’s quiet, I sit on the edge of my bed and look out the window. My room happens to be facing some mountains, so when it’s quiet, I can look at the mountains and relax the most. When I took my driving test some time ago, I would walk a long way alone when I went to practice, and I was also very relaxed at this time.

Reporter: When your parole is over, is your mood relatively relaxed?

Chen Sihan: Yes, in fact, just like the day of parole, not happy, but just feel relaxed and relieved. After all, I spent more than 6 years inside, basically in the process of repression, the psychological burden is very heavy.

Reporter: Is there anything in particular you want to do when your parole is over?

Chen Sihan: I want to see the people who have helped me. I want to visit the police officers at the detention center, and then I want to go to Guiyang to visit my classmates and friends and say thank you to them in person.

Reporter: Do I need to go through any procedures at the end of my parole?

Chen Sihan: A termination of parole at the local judicial office, and then the sentence will be completely over.

[7] School is a place I miss

Reporter: When did lawyer Lin get involved in your case?

Chen Sihan: It seems to be the end of 2019, and suddenly I was asked to go to the arraignment. When I was inside, we met three times. In addition to talking about the case, she told me a story about past lives and present lives, and cause and effect.

At that time, I felt that she was different from other lawyers, she was willing to communicate with me in a different way and had a more intimate feeling.

She really helped me a lot, after all, I have been out of society for so long, I don’t know a lot of things, I am learning now, and Ms. Lin is trying her best to help me re-integrate into society.

Reporter: You took a college diploma in law from the unregistered center?

Chen Sihan: Yes, I am the second batch. There is also cooperation with some vocational schools and enterprises, if you learn sewing skills inside, if you have the intention, you can go to work in the factory directly after you come out.

The study time is every Friday morning, and then also on weekends, the examination time is the same as outside. Our group is also more focused on learning, and later changed a study day. Only that day to study, the whole day to study.

The degree inside and outside is the same, are recognized. My college diploma can be found on the school letter network.

Reporter: Will you consider going back to school in the future?

Chen Sihan: I’ve always had this idea of taking a self-study undergraduate degree. I didn’t know where I wanted to go, but lawyer Lin suggested I could go to a university in Beijing. In fact, I just want to get at least a bachelor’s degree, I don’t want so much.

Reporter: You also want to take the law course?

Chen Sihan: After all, I had studied, and at first I wanted to learn computer science in the unregulated institute. Later, when lawyer Lin came over, I have been in contact with legal issues, so it might be better to study law.

Reporter: What is your daily routine like now?

Chen Sihan: When I first came out, I woke up at 6:00 a.m., but now it’s a little later. After I get up, I help Ms. Lin write things for her because I am interning with her. There are many things I don’t understand, so I learn how to get it done, which is also a learning process. Sometimes I work late to get the day’s tasks done.

I stay at home every day and go out for a walk once in a while. I don’t think I’m too much of a playful person, and I think it’s good to be quiet. I like to work and study alone, I am more efficient when I am quiet. Then I cook my own food.

Besides doing my internship, I usually listen to songs, read books, and play guitar. My way to spend time is to be in a quiet place and just listen to songs by myself.

Reporter: Can you still talk to your friends when they come back now?

Chen Sihan: Definitely not anymore, but I enjoy the atmosphere with them.

Reporter: Do you still think about what happened at school?

Chen Sihan: I definitely don’t want to think about that, but I still think back to the happy days at school. After all, it is the place where I studied for so many years, and there are so many classmates, good friends and teachers, it is a place that I should miss.

[8] I want to walk down the street with my chest up

Reporter: What were your thoughts when you saw this kind of bullying video online?

Chen Sihan: I didn’t want to see it because I experienced it myself and thought it was too cruel.

Reporter: If you encounter bullying on the road now, will you go to help them?

Chen Sihan: I can only say that I will help them to report to the police. I also have a psychological shadow of this kind of thing, and sometimes those who persuade the fight are beaten instead. I can only say to observe the situation, then call the police and wait for the police to deal with it.

Reporter: If the verdict is finally changed to self-defense, what do you think will happen to your life next?

Chen Sihan: In that case it’s good, after all there is a stain here. No one knows what happened to you for any reason, he only knows that you have a criminal record. Although underage crimes with a sentence of less than 5 years are sealed files, no one can check unless you commit another crime.

But I was 8 years in prison and had a record all along, so it would have been nice if the sentence had been changed, I would have been able to walk down the street with my chest up and at least have a good account of what happened to everyone.

Reporter: If this incident had not happened, you would have followed the established course of development?

Chen Sihan: I just want to live an ordinary life, and I don’t want to do anything big, I just want to live a good life. I just want to live a good life, and then pay back my parents well. Even if the sentence is changed, I can’t go back to my life path. I still stayed inside for so long, I still didn’t go to college, still didn’t enjoy that kind of life, just that there is no record.

Reporter: Have you ever thought about going to college somewhere?

Chen Sihan: I wanted to go to Shanghai, and my highest goal at that time was Fudan University. After all, it was the highest goal, so even if I couldn’t go to school, I had to work hard towards it.

Reporter: Did you think about what kind of work you wanted to do?

Chen Sihan: I hadn’t thought about it that much at that time, but I was influenced by my uncle and aunt, and I still wanted to develop my career in the medical field. But these things are subject to change. You may not necessarily get into the university of your choice, or study the profession of your choice.
