The government of Sweden is now in the process of establishing a new government.
The Chinese Embassy in Sweden has threatened the journalist Jojje Olsson for reporting on the boycott of H&M in China.
The reporters said that the Chinese embassy had sent a letter to Olsson on Thursday, accusing him of conspiring with Taiwan independence activists, spreading misinformation to stir up anti-China sentiment, dishonesty and moral turpitude, and asking him to face the consequences of his actions. The newspaper “expressen” is also seeking the political department of the Chinese Embassy to ask Olsen what consequences he will face if he continues to report on China.
Olsen has published several articles on China’s actions against H&M, and it is no surprise to him that he has received emails from the Chinese Communist Party, which has repeatedly asked him to stop reporting on China, but this time the tone is more threatening than in the past.
This is not the first time that the Chinese embassy has tried to influence freedom of expression in Sweden by threatening journalists in Sweden. The right-leaning opposition parties, the CDP and the Sweden Democrats, have proposed expelling Gui from Sweden, and this incident has reinforced their position that the proposal should be put into practice.
Markus Wiechel, the Sweden Democrats’ foreign affairs spokesman, said the Chinese ambassador had threatened Swedish journalists and politicians for years and that such behavior was unacceptable, and that the Sweden Democrats had already proposed in 2019 that Gui be listed as “persona non grata. He said that Gui has seriously affected diplomatic relations between the two countries.
