Calling a halt to the culture of cancellation San Francisco school district rescinds 44 public school renaming resolution

The San Francisco City School Board voted Tuesday (April 6) to rescind a previously adopted resolution to change the names of 44 public schools. Some parents told the media that the schools should first consider reopening classes rather than changing their names at a time when they are being hit hard by the epidemic.

Many local schools in San Francisco are named after historical figures such as Founding Father George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, who abolished slavery, and Presidents Franklin Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson, but are now being called “racist” and “racist. The city of San Francisco is currently being accused of “racism” and “slavery history”. On Jan. 26, the San Francisco City School Board voted 6-1 to approve a bill to rename 44 public schools in the area, in an attempt to remove the names of so-called “controversial historical figures” from their names, to much opposition.

Patrick Wolf, head of the nonprofit, recently told the Voice of America (VOA), “We name schools after historical figures, but our understanding and evaluation of those figures has changed over time. The committee that considered the matter did not consult original sources and outside research and did not consult historians.”

“This is important to modern society, and this should be done by all of us, and it should be done with information and knowledge.” Wolfe said.

Kevin Robinson, a parent of a student, said that even though certain school names are controversial, “no one is perfect.” He believes the school should focus on restarting teaching and learning at a time when the epidemic is spreading, rather than discussing a name change.

“I don’t think a name change is necessary right now,” Robinson said. “Getting public school kids back in the classroom, even in the open air, should be the priority right now, not changing the name of the school. Plus, renaming schools won’t be free. Where will the money come from? That money could be spent on more important things right now.”

Changing school names is reportedly very expensive in the U.S. It is estimated that renaming 44 public schools in San Francisco will cost at least $1 million.

Currently, the San Francisco School Board plans to revisit the issue of school renaming when the schools reopen. In fact, this attempted erasure of history and anti-culture movement has been called “Culture Marxism” by some scholars.

During the so-called “Black Lives Matter” (BLM) movement that erupted last summer, radical leftist groups not only openly beat, vandalized, looted and burned in the streets in the name of protest, but also launched actions to tear down statues of Washington and Lincoln in various city squares.

At the time, some black students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison also advocated for the removal of one of the university’s most iconic landmarks, the Lincoln statue. Rebecca Blank, president of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, argued against this. She questions: If a “great liberator” like Lincoln is the subject of demolition, then who is innocent when discussing the history of the American nation?

Manisha Sinha, a historian and professor at the University of Connecticut, also pointed out that history is complex and nuanced, and that while Washington or Lincoln may not have been perfect at everything, they are still highly respected figures in American history, and that removing their statues would ruin the entire history of the United States.

Dr. Jeff Myers, president of the fundamentalist Christian organization Summit Ministries, pointed out in a January 20 interview with New Tang Dynasty that tearing down the statues is an erasure of history, just like the recent censoring and blocking of numbers by big tech companies. The “counter-culture movement”, which can also be called the “abolitionist culture” movement, has its origin in Marxism.

Dr. Myers said that one of the characteristics of Marxism is that it is good at “stigmatization” to eliminate dissent. They always use coercive means to “eliminate” voices that disagree with them, rather than allowing discussion.

According to Myers, Marxism creates moral confusion, with the ultimate goal of eliminating and replacing the Western religious-based worldview, since traditional values are the greatest obstacle to the spread of Marxism.

In the last century in China, the Chinese Communist Party also launched the Cultural Revolution in order to create a situation in which Marxism, Leninism, and Maoism would “reign supreme,” dealing a devastating blow to China’s 5,000-year-old traditional culture.
