Recently, a mainland consumer bought a Gucci belt for 2,549 yuan on the mainland online sales discount platform Vipshop, but it was identified as a fake by the trendy online shopping community Take-A-Way. A number of consumers who bought the same goods also said that the third-party identification results were also fake. The two shopping platforms are arguing over the authenticity of the goods.
In the case of a consumer who bought a Gucci belt from Vipshop on March 8 at a price of 2,549 yuan (RMB, same below), the consumer sent the belt to the website after receiving it on March 20 and finding that the size did not match.
During the communication with Vipshop, the consumer found that Vipshop could not provide the invoice, customs clearance document and anti-counterfeiting code for the belt.
A number of consumers who purchased the same goods also said that the third-party identification results were also counterfeit.
As of April 6, the number of “problematic belts” involved 133 pieces, involving an amount of nearly 330,000 yuan.
On the evening of April 7, Vipshop said that the Gucci belts were sourced directly from overseas by Vipshop, with a clear and reliable buying chain and legal compliance to ensure authenticity. The batch of goods also by the China Inspection and Certification Group for sampling, has passed the identification.
On the afternoon of the 7th, the company also responded that it had reviewed the identification results after noticing media reports that Gucci belts sold on a platform had been identified as counterfeit by the company, and late on the night of the 7th, the company said that the identification results were still not genuine, and provided a detailed analysis and identification process, together with identification reports from four platforms, including China Inspection and Certification, and You Luxury Easy Auction.
The Gucci China said that it would not comment on this for the time being, and that Gucci guarantees that the products purchased by consumers in the official channels are authentic, including the brand’s directly-managed stores, official websites and relevant authorized channels.
The official channels include the brand’s direct stores, official websites and relevant authorized channels. When asked if Vipshop is an official sales channel, Gucci responded that Vipshop is not its authorized store.
The Vipshop and the get thing each have their own word. However, Vipshop’s share price fell 1.59% on the 8th.
The incident sparked great concern among netizens, who commented on it.
Some netizens said that both platforms have a bad reputation and the quality of the goods they bought was not good.
Netizen “Emmanuel” said: “We do not know if the things of the only product will be fake, but the quality is really poor.”
“butterfly” said: “I bought several times in the Vipshop clothes feel that the quality is not as good as I bought in Taobao flagship store, and now Vipshop in my heart has become the spokesman for the cottage.”
Some netizens speculate that GUCCI advised people to buy in the regular channel has already explained the problem. “Tencent netizen” said, “In fact, GUCCI repeatedly stressed in the formal channels to buy is authentic, is an allusion to the only product will not be authorized dealers.”
Netizen “Pan Tao” questioned the current platform to buy the real thing, he said: “China can buy the real thing? Oh …… want to buy the real thing on these platforms is difficult to the blue sky!”
“Chason” believes that “a platform as long as it is selling fake goods, then from then on it loses credibility.”
Netizen “Han Han” kindly advises everyone: buy luxury goods so expensive things or go to the counter to buy, do not greedy online cheap.
The news of whether Vipshop sells fake goods has once again aroused the public’s concern about the proliferation of fake goods on the mainland.
On the mainland, there are widespread problems with the sale of fakes and description discrepancies in luxury goods from watches and jewelry to bags and clothes, especially in the second-hand luxury goods market.
According to the world news network on April 7, in the mainland second-hand luxury live, from clothing and bags to watches and jewelry, a second-hand luxury live can sell hundreds of luxury goods a day, and with one or two discounts to buy brand-name ninety percent new goods, but the truth goes not as tempting as it seems.
Chengdu buyer Liu Yi said: “There is no guarantee of the authenticity of second-hand luxury goods. I spent more than 3,000 yuan to buy a Dior shoulder bag and a more than 2,000 yuan Omega watch, but they turned out to be fakes. When I approached the platform, the customer service only emphasized the absolute authenticity, but could not issue any identification report or statement, and did not support the return of goods, which is tantamount to allowing consumers to admit their own misfortune.”
Liu Yi said that the platform itself can not issue a valid identification report of the goods, she wanted to send to the identification, the need for more than 1,000 yuan of inspection costs, and the seller may not recognize the identification results sent by the consumer himself. This means that once the goods are sold, the platform will not bear any after-sales responsibility.
Many consumers reported that the highest percentage of complaints about online second-hand luxury goods transactions were about counterfeit goods, color and description discrepancies. The situation that the description of goods does not match with the actual condition and the goods are not right is also very common in online second-hand luxury goods trading.
The China Second-hand Luxury Goods Market Development Research Report (2021) said: Since brands do not provide identification service, ordinary consumers lack identification ability, and trading places gradually shift to online, there are more channels and lower costs for selling luxury goods fakes, and it is more difficult for consumers to defend their rights.
