Brazilian Chinese Association President Zhang Wei was shot and killed

On April 6, Zhang Wei, the president of the Brazilian Chinese Association, was shot and killed during his morning walk.

According to the surveillance video uploaded by the public, the perpetrators were two people, one wearing a black top driving a motorcycle, and the other wearing a red top sitting on the back of the motorcycle with a gun, shooting at Zhang Wei at close range, apparently not a robbery. According to the people’s network, Zhang Wei was shot six times and fell to the ground dead. There was a man accompanying Zhang Wei, who experienced the shooting firsthand and fled the scene in shock.

According to mainland Chinese media, on April 7, local time, Sun Ren’an, deputy consul general of the Chinese Consulate General in São Paulo, and his delegation went to the São Paulo State Police Homicide and Habeas Corpus Bureau and met with the director of the bureau, Fabio, and the police officers in charge of the case, etc., regarding the murder of Zhang Wei.

Sun Ren’an said that the case is a brutal and bad nature, a violent crime against Chinese citizens, which has caused widespread concern in São Paulo and the entire Brazilian overseas community.

According to the official media in mainland China, Zhang Wei was born in 1968, a native of Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, and came to Brazil in 1996 to make a living. He has served as president of the Brazilian Wenzhou Fellowship Association, president of the Brazilian Chinese Chamber of Commerce and president of the Brazilian Chinese Association.
