Then-U.S. President Donald Trump inspects the construction of a U.S.-Mexico border wall in San Luis, Arizona, June 23, 2020.
The Biden administration is reportedly considering resuming border wall construction in response to the immigration crisis. Former President Trump said on Tuesday (April 6) that it was good news and that the current administration had “taken a positive step forward.
The Washington Times reported Monday that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is considering expanding the existing border wall in the midst of the current illegal immigration crisis and may want to restart the construction of the border wall initiated and begun by former President Donald Trump.
In a phone interview with Newsmax TV on Tuesday, Trump said it would be a “positive” sign if true.
“The wall, we were almost done with it.” He said, “It was delayed two and a half years because of lawsuits.”
Democrats have continued to criticize the wall throughout Trump’s tenure. President Joe Biden signed an executive order on Jan. 20 after taking office that ended construction of the border wall.
Trump said he wished the new administration well if they chose to finish the job.
“If they’re going to get it done, it’s a great thing, it’s a very positive step.” He added.
Trump: Wishing Biden all the best
In Tuesday’s interview, Trump expressed some good wishes to Biden. Biden has been in office for nearly three months.
“I wish him well.” Trump said he wished Biden “all the best physically and mentally.”
Trump said from his own experience that being president is stressful, especially for the 78-year-old Biden.
As president, he said, “there’s a lot of work to do” every day, which amounts to “50 hours a day. He also expressed doubts that his successor would be able to “make most of the decisions” in the White House.
“I think most of the decisions are made by other people.” He said the United States is turning left and “becoming a socialist country.” And Biden has always called himself a “centrist.
However, Trump said the U.S. economy remains resilient despite the new White House’s shift to the left and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 (Chinese Communist virus) outbreak and related state shutdowns, thanks to the work of the previous administration he led.
“We’re doing better than any other country in the world right now.” Trump said, “And that’s due to the economic foundation that we’ve built.”
