Biden detained 18,000 minors, 7 times more than under Trump

U.S. media outlet National Pulse reported Tuesday (April 6) that the number of unaccompanied minors detained by Customs and Border Patrol or the Department of Health (Health and Human Services) under Biden’s leadership is nearly seven times higher than under Trump.

A March 10 Washington Post story reported that “more than 8,500 immigrant teens and children who have crossed the border without parents are housed in Department of Health (HHS) facilities” and “nearly 3,500 others are stuck at border patrol stations waiting for beds in these HHS shelters.” According to internal data reviewed by the Washington Post, these numbers constitute “the highest number ever recorded.

And the gap continues to widen. As of Tuesday’s ABC News report, there were 17,641 unaccompanied immigrant minors in government care. Customs and Border Patrol told ABC News, “There are 5,606 children in Customs and Border Patrol custody and 12,035 children in the care of the Department of Health.” That amounts to an increase of about 50 percent in just three weeks.

By comparison, the highest number of unaccompanied minors held in this manner during the Trump era was about 2,600 in June 2019, according to congressional testimony and two former Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials involved in dealing with the border crisis at the time.

The latest figures show that the Biden regime has detained nearly seven times as many unaccompanied minors as the Trump administration. The data also undercuts Biden’s claim that the current surge in illegal immigration at the border is related to seasonal migration patterns. And meanwhile, progressive Rep. AOC and her cohorts remain silent.
