2+2=5: Oregon Department of Education pushes new curriculum, says math needs correct answers to be racist

The Gateway Pundit reported Tuesday (April 6) that the Oregon Department of Education is promoting an online course that claims that math is racist because it requires correct answers.

The course, called A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction, is “an integrated approach to mathematics centered on Black, Latino and multilingual students” that provides “ongoing opportunities for self-reflection as they seek to engage in anti-racist mathematical practices.

The curriculum guide writes that “a culture of white supremacy permeates the everyday pedagogical behaviors of mathematics classrooms” and “coupled with the beliefs underlying these behaviors, the educational harm to Black, Latino, and multilingual students is perpetuated, denying them full access to the world of mathematics.”

Campus Reform was the first to report that the document cites a “culture of white supremacy” that includes a focus on “getting the ‘right’ answer” and requiring students to show their work.

The authors of the course noted, “The notion that math is purely objective is unequivocally false. “

The program also instructs teachers to “choose questions with complex, competitive, or multiple answers” so that students can come up with “at least two answers” to “challenge standardized test questions at …….”
