Secretary of State Antony Blinken said today that the United States will soon be able to provide foreign assistance on the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine and will not seek a return.
Blinken said the first priority for the United States is to combat the outbreak within its borders, but that goal will soon be achieved, noting that President Biden has promised that by the 19th of this month, 90 percent of the U.S. population will have close access to vaccine stations.
Blinken stressed that the domestic epidemic will not end unless the epidemic dissipates in the world. In addition, he noted that if other countries are still deep in the epidemic and their economies have not yet improved, it will also affect the U.S. economic recovery.
He said the U.S. will not trade vaccines for political favors, “Our purpose is to save lives.”
