Kaiwen Chen and Wei Chen Selected for U.S. National Figure Skating Team

The ISU Figure Skating World Cup team competition will be held in Osaka, Japan from April 15-18. The U.S. Figure Skating Association has officially announced the U.S. team’s entry. Among them, Karen Chen of Chinese descent from San Francisco Bay Area will participate in the women’s single skating competition. Nathan Chen, a Chinese-American, will compete in the men’s single skating event.

The event features six of the best national teams in figure skating for the 2020-2021 season. These include the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, and the Russian team, which is competing as an independent athlete.

Each team consists of two women’s singles skaters, two men’s singles skaters, a pair of pairs skaters, and a pair of ice dancers. In the women’s single skating, men’s single skating and pairs skating, each pair will be ranked according to the total score of the short program and free skating. Each pair of ice dancers will be ranked according to the total score of the rhythmic dance and free dance. The competitors will be converted into points based on their respective rankings. The national team with the highest point total will win the event.

The U.S. National Team’s lineup is as follows.

Women’s Singles: Kaiwen Chen, Bradie Tennell.

Men’s singles skating: Chen Wei, Jason Brown.

Pair skating: Alexa Knierim/Brandon Frazier.

Ice dance: Kaitlin Hawayek/Jean-Luc Baker.
