When is the best time to change jobs?

I have changed jobs several times in the US, once from the US to China, and once in China.

Personally, I think there are several basic points to consider when changing jobs.

1, don’t ever go for small money

Don’t ever ever go for small money.

The most uneconomical way is to go from the existing good platform to a similar platform or a smaller platform to engage in the same job position, just for a small increase in income. Everyone’s definition of an increase is different, so I won’t say the numbers. But be sure to consider what your loss of opportunity in the current platform is, and consider the opportunity cost carefully before making a decision.

Maybe the job you change now for a small amount of money, the loss of income, in the long run will be very large.

2, frustration is a good thing

Embrace the problems!

A person’s career is not long, especially in the technology industry, the time to shine is even shorter, must cherish every opportunity. Everyone will have frustrating times at work, such as superiors like and reuse others, such as partners do not like you, such as your work style and methods do not fit the current work environment.

These frustrations are not reasons to change jobs.

Instead, they are a good thing, reflecting your current weaknesses most accurately. Pinpoint the problem, think about it carefully, and then solve the problem to see the results. These processes are the best opportunities to practice your skills.

To be fair, be cruel to yourself, all the reasons you can list for being frustrated at work, basically you have your own responsibilities and shortcomings. Don’t run away from the problem. If you run away from it this time, there is a good chance that it will happen again when you move to another company.

Where to fall down where to stand up, to become stronger.

3, value your own value, understand your own price

Always test your market value.

Value is your comprehensive career level, including your professional skills, industry vision, communication skills, workplace contacts, management style, etc.. Everyone’s professional value is spontaneously created and strongly related to yourself, and you should always remember that your professional value needs to be improved.

The matter of not maintaining the level of professional value is not progressing, especially in the now fiercely competitive workplace.

Price is an objective reflection of your value, and this will fluctuate, for example, if the industry is now particularly in need of your type of work, or the recent economic situation is particularly good, your price will become higher. As a working person with a stable job, you need to fully understand your price so that you can help make a judgment when you change jobs and whether it is worth it.

Except for people who start a business, most of the workplace can be understood as a commodity, that’s what it means.

4, high point jump

Be confident enough to change.

The best kind of situation is that you are outstanding in your existing platform, top 5%, doing very well, recognized by everyone. This time is the best time for you to choose other opportunities. Because this time your career skills, mental state, confidence are at a high point, you can face all the challenges of the new job.

Then look at what you value most from the new opportunity, but what your current job can’t give you.

Think differently from the perspective of the new company; others want to find someone who is good, not someone who is struggling in their current company.

Preparing yourself and staying good is a prerequisite for jumping high.

High point jump than low point jump or ordinary state jump, you get far greater opportunities and rewards.

5, the courage to face challenges

Step out of your comfort zone.

Actually I would say, Run out of your comfort zone.

This one is the hardest, and the older you get, the harder it gets. Get out of your comfort zone.

When you have the basic satisfaction in a job: a good income, a respectable position, recognition from superiors and subordinates, a stable team, a comfortable work-life balance, etc.. It’s hard for you to go out on a limb.

Everyone has ambition, but not everyone has the ability to execute.

Accompanied by rational thinking, there are good opportunities that you objectively identify as opportunities that can be moved, but you chicken out. You are afraid of losing the present rewards, you are afraid that every day will be busier, you are afraid that to the new team others do not trust you, you are afraid that the new company is not stable ……

In fact, these are all reasons, because you are too comfortable.

If not retirement, but also hope to go further in the career, you need to have the courage to face the challenge.

Risk and opportunity go hand in hand.

The further you go in your career path, the more you find it difficult to have a new job that is better than your current one from every latitude.

Be prepared for danger and always think about whether your comfort zone is good for you.

6, Family is important

Family is the most important thing in your life.

Every time you change careers, it affects your entire family. Your parents and spouse are the most important part of your life. Ask their opinion, respect them and think carefully.

Every time I changed my job, I had my parents and wife’s approval to have the courage to move forward. I don’t think it’s a kind of cowardice and incompetence, I think it’s a responsibility that everyone should bear, a sweet responsibility.
