Since ancient times, wood has a high economic value, and based on the concept of environmental conservation, many regulations have been set for logging. In the mountainous area of Guizhou Province, China, there is a “Nanmu King” with an age of more than 1700 years, which not only has a long history and a towering body, but also has many legends and has become the treasure of the village.

This kind of fragrant nan is a special species of China, mainly in Guizhou, Sichuan, Yunnan and other southern China areas. As the wood emits a fragrant aroma, the value of a tree falls around 250,000 RMB if it is more than 300 years old, and trees like this one, which is over a thousand years old, are naturally worth a lot of money.
As the King of Nanmu has existed in the village for more than a thousand years, there are naturally many legends circulating. According to legend, at the end of the Ming Dynasty, a young man from the village went to Beijing to take an examination and before he left, he wished to the tree that “if he could get a place in the examination, he would come back and build a temple”. Later in the early Qing Dynasty, the young man really got the exam, and also kept his promise to build a temple under the tree, now the temple does not exist, the ancient tree is still flourishing.
In addition to the events of the late Ming Dynasty, there are also many villagers who pray to the King of Nanmu for peace whenever their lives are not going well, or when they suffer from natural or man-made disasters. The existence of the King of Nanmu is not only the treasure of the village, but also the spiritual support of the local people.
A few days ago, a Chinese businessman invested more than 100 million RMB in an attempt to acquire the wood of the King of Nanmu for profit, but the villagers refused, insisting that they would not sell it for any amount of money, creating an interesting story between man and tree.
