Chinese government officials have recently released another provocative statement on U.S.-China relations, with Foreign Minister Wang Yi once again “making new words” about the relationship between China and the United States in an interview last weekend, saying he “does not recognize that there are superior countries in the world. Foreign media reports suggest that the recent deterioration of the Chinese Communist Party’s diplomatic situation with the developed world and the increase in foreign affairs activities with neighboring Asian countries may be due to the government’s need to find allies outside the world’s major developed countries.
On Monday (April 5), the official website of the Chinese Communist Party’s Foreign Ministry published a press release on Wang Yi’s recent reception with the foreign ministers of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and South Korea, during which Wang Yi declared that China is open to dialogue between China and the United States, but “China does not recognize that there are still superior countries in this world and does not accept that only one country can say what happens in the world “He also said that China and the United States should “achieve two-way reciprocity, not unilaterally mention conditions and pull lists.
During a two-day meeting between Chinese and U.S. officials in Alaska in mid-March, U.S. officials raised concerns about human rights issues in Xinjiang, which then prompted heated feedback from Chinese Communist Party officials. Also in March, the Chinese Communist government incited a domestic boycott of foreign companies that banned the use of Xinjiang cotton produced with forced labor, prompting condemnation from many developed countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States and Europe, leading to a more isolated diplomatic situation for the Communist Party.
Deutsche Welle noted that while relations with many countries such as Britain, the United States, Europe, India, Australia and Canada have deteriorated, the CCP has engaged in diplomatic activities with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia and other sub-state proxies in an attempt to show the importance it attaches to relations with these countries.
Following the conclusion of the U.S.-China dialogue, Wang Yi made a non-stop trip to six Middle Eastern countries, also rushed to Russia to meet with the Russian foreign minister, and met with five Southeast Asian foreign ministers last weekend. The New York Times reported on March 29 that the move may indicate that Beijing is trying to bring countries into its fold.
As the Chinese Communist Party frequently engages in diplomacy with neighboring countries, fellow Asian nation Japan has recently expressed strong condemnation of Beijing on a number of issues. On Monday, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshichika Mogi called Wang Yi for 90 minutes, during which he talked about the CCP’s improper treatment of Uighurs and condemned its incursions into disputed waters, as well as slammed its crackdown on human rights in Hong Kong.
In a statement, Japan’s foreign ministry confirmed that Toshimichi expressed “strong concern” to Wang Yi over the above issues and strongly called on Beijing to improve them and “take concrete action.” However, the Chinese government has made little mention of the Japanese foreign minister’s criticism in mainland media reports.
The Japanese government’s move came ahead of a summit with the United States. And on the same day, the Chinese Communist Party’s official media released new comments from Wang Yi on U.S.-China relations.
Voice of Hope commentator He Xu said that the Chinese Communist Party only asks others to keep their mouths shut, but its wholesale denial of its own human rights scandals and its backbiting of international condemnation of its atrocities seem to reflect the Chinese Communist government’s state of mind that wants only its own say and cannot tolerate others. However, it does not have the strength to realize this dream of hegemony, so it bites back at the U.S. for being “superior”, which actually reflects its own mentality, dreaming of riding on the heads of others and “having the say”. But it can’t do it, so it slandered the other side, trying to make use of public opinion to climb to a high point, in overseas suffered a loss, in verbal retrieval.
According to He Xu, Xi Jinping’s statement at the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference on March 6 that the CCP “can look at the world with an even hand” actually reflects a similar mentality. In fact, the CCP, which has done so many bad things, feels it is inferior to the rest of the world, so it takes pride in its imaginary view of the world.
According to the commentary, this year’s April 5 is actually the 50th anniversary of the “Ping-Pong diplomacy” in the history of U.S.-China diplomacy, which led to the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two governments 50 years ago, but at a time of tension between China and the United States, the two governments are not seen commemorating or mentioning this anniversary.
