Refusal to serve in the Xinjiang Military Region Anhui university students were heavily punished

There have been repeated incidents of young people refusing to serve in the military throughout mainland China. Recently, a college student in Anhui province was stationed in Xinjiang military zone and refused to serve in the military because he did not fit in, so he was severely punished, not only not allowed to return to school for two years, but also punished nearly 50,000 yuan and included in the list of “serious breach of trust”.

The government of Hefei Shushan District in Anhui Province announced on April 4 that recruit Liu Shuai, who was stationed in Xinjiang Military Region last year, showed discomfort on the second day and asked to leave the army. The military district decided to remove the name, household registration records permanently added “refusal to serve in the military”, 2 years may not return to Anhui Agricultural University to resume school.

The punishment notice said, Liu Shuai in September last year by the physical examination, political assessment, pre-service training, approval of the military and other procedures to voluntarily enlist in the army. In November of the same year, the Disciplinary Inspection Committee of the South China Military Region of the Communist Party of China (CPC) decided to remove his name and impose a fine of two times the local standard for conscript family preference payment, i.e., RMB 46,866.

In addition to the above penalties, Liu Shuai has been included in the list of “serious defaulters in fulfilling national defense obligations”, and cannot be granted preferential credit policies or interest rate concessions for three years, and cannot engage in business for three years, and cannot become a civil servant, institution staff or state-owned enterprise staff in Shushan District, and cannot be included in the scope of hardship subsidies and guaranteed housing projects.

In recent years, the phenomenon of young people refusing to serve in the military is widespread in many parts of the mainland, and these young people have been subjected to a number of heavy official penalties.

On September 24, 2020, the municipal government of Wenshan, Yunnan Province of the Communist Party of China (CPC) issued a notice dealing with the refusal of Huang Moumou (male), born in 1998, to serve in the military. On September 14 of the same year, the Xinzhou District Government of Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province of the Communist Party of China issued a circular dealing with the case of Xu Moumou (male), born in 1998, who refused to serve in the military.

The notification stated that they both graduated from college freshman year and voluntarily applied for conscription. However, during the pre-military service training, “the willingness to enlist declined”. Among them, Huang wrote an application to quit 3 times in 4 days, and Xu “often refused to participate in training and group activities for various reasons”.

The two were thus punished with eight penalties, including not being hired as civil servants or staff of state-owned enterprises for two years; not being allowed to enroll in school or pursue higher education for two years; not being allowed to go through business procedures for three years; Huang was punished with 12,000 yuan and Xu with 20,000 yuan, etc.

In addition to refusing to perform military service, videos of military personnel crying on their way to Tibet had also been circulating online.

On September 19, 2020, the Twitter account “Lin Caijun Michael” posted a video of Chinese Communist soldiers singing and crying on their way to the Sino-Indian border. The video shows the soldiers singing in a car, and suddenly many of them burst into tears as they sing.

In 2019, Hainan, Guizhou, Jiangsu, Jiangsu, Hubei and Henan provinces, some people refused to serve in the military.

In 2018, Henan, Shanxi, Guizhou, Fujian, Guangxi, Jilin, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, and Anhui, all of them also had people who refused to serve in the military. Among them, 26 people were publicly dealt with in Heilongjiang for refusing military service; 15 people were dealt with in Shaanxi; and 17 people were dealt with in Jilin City, Jilin Province.

In 2017, Yunnan, Jiangxi, Fujian, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Hubei, all of which also had people refuse to serve in the military.
