U.S. Congressman asks Biden: Would you boycott the Beijing Olympics over genocide?

Major League Baseball’s (MLB) boycott of Georgia’s new Election Law and President Biden’s public support of MLB’s move sparked backlash from several members of Congress. The lawmakers asked Biden if he would apply this tough stance to the Chinese Communist regime’s boycott of the Beijing Olympics.

Major League Baseball (MLB) officially announced Friday (April 2) that it is forgoing hosting this year’s All-Star Game and MLB Draft in the state of Joe and will hold it at a different location, citing resistance to the Joe State Election Reform Act.

Recently, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed the Election Reform Act, which requires absentee voting with photo ID, enhanced ballot box security, and mandatory early voting dates, among other things. Republicans say the law will restore confidence in the state’s elections, but Democrats claim it will restrict voting access.

Major League Baseball (MLB) President Robert D. Manfred Jr. said MLB “fundamentally supports the right of all Americans to vote and opposes restrictions on the ballot box.

President Joe Biden said in a media interview on Wednesday (March 31) that he would “strongly support” MLB’s decision to move the All-Star Game out of Georgia. Biden said, “I think the professional athletes acted today and took their responsibility. I will strongly support them in doing so.” “People look up to them, they’re leaders. Look at what’s happening in the NBA. Look at what’s happening in all areas. It’s not right that the people who suffer the most are the leaders of these sports.”

Rep. Dan Crenshaw, a Texas Republican, asked the president on Friday if he intends to pull the United States out of the Beijing Olympics in response.

Crenshaw tweeted, “Hey Joe Biden, are you going to boycott the Beijing Olympics because of genocide? Or do you just want to hurt the small businesses in Atlanta that are planning to (benefit from) the All-Star Game? Americans are tired of this awakening boycott. Shame on @MLB.”

White House press secretary Jen Psaki was also asked about Biden’s statement during a White House press conference Friday. A reporter asked Biden if he would extend the “boycott” to the Beijing Olympics. Psaki responded that the U.S. Olympic Committee would play an “important role” in that decision.

In a separate Twitter post Friday, Rep. Crenshaw told MLB.

“Hey @MLB, do you really think giving in to the awakening mob will help you? It won’t and America is sick of it.”

Congressman Crenshaw tweeted twice about “woke,” which originally meant to wake up after going to sleep, but now the word has come to mean “awakening” in a political or cultural sense or “alertness. alert” in a political or cultural sense. The word was widely used in the “Black Lives Matter” movement to express the political awareness of African-Americans about issues such as racial injustice.

On the 2nd, Florida’s U.S. Senator Marco Rubio also tweeted his views. He highlighted MLB’s expanded agreement with Chinese tech giant Tencent to stream games to China. The Chinese Communist Party has cracked down on pro-democracy protests in the country.

“@MLB felt pressure to move the draft and All-Star Game out of Georgia the same week they announced a deal with a company backed by the genocidal Chinese Communist Party. Why are we still listening to these awakened corporate hypocrites on taxes, regulations & anti-trust?” Rubio tweeted.
