Former U.S. President Donald Trump accused Facebook and other tech giants of imposing “total censorship” in the United States in a new interview on Thursday (April 1). A few days ago, an interview he did for Lara Trump’s blog was removed by Facebook.
In one interview, he told Dr. Gina Loudon, “What’s happening in this country right now, no one [thought] it would happen. This is a comprehensive review.”
He said, “In this country, you don’t have freedom of speech. But you know what happened, and after they took it down, now people are talking about it more.” He described the video, which was deleted by Facebook, as a “really good interview” with his daughter-in-law, Laura.
Earlier this week, a source close to the Trump group confirmed to The Epoch Times that Laura’s interview with the former commander-in-chief was deleted by Facebook on Tuesday (March 30), 20 minutes after it was posted. Facebook has not yet responded to The Epoch Times’ request for comment.
On Wednesday (March 31), Laura uploaded screenshots showing an email from a Facebook Inc. representative. It said the video was removed because it “showed President Trump speaking” and “Donald Trump’s voice.”
The email said, “Consistent with our practice of blocking Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, all content that posts Donald Trump’s voice will be removed and will result in additional restrictions being placed on those accounts.”
Trump was blocked by Twitter, Facebook, Google and other social media platforms following the Jan. 6 Capitol break-in. They claimed the president’s speeches to supporters incited violence. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the ban against Trump, claiming he was “using our platform to incite a violent rebellion against an elected government.
Later, a Twitter executive said in an interview that the ban on Trump would be permanent.
Trump has said in several recent interviews that he is reluctant to use Twitter anymore. He had previously amassed 80 million followers on Twitter. He also said the social media site has lost a lot of users because it is too “boring”. The former president’s advisors also said they would launch a new social media site in the coming weeks.
