Speaker of the House Pelosi ordered Congress to lower its flags to half-staff in mourning, and President Biden also ordered the White House to lower its flags to half-staff.

The Biden couple had just left Washington before the incident and arrived at Camp David, Maryland (Camp David) for the Easter holiday. Biden said he and his wife Jill heard about the violent attack and felt heartbroken.

Biden said he had been briefed to express his “heartfelt condolences” to the family of Capitol Police Officer William Evans, who was killed in the line of duty. Evans was an 18-year veteran Capitol Police officer, whom Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called “a martyr to the halls of our democracy.

U.S. media reported that police identified the suspect in the attack as Noah Green, a 25-year-old African-American man from Indiana who is an advocate of the African-American nationalist Nation of Islam Movement.

Acting U.S. Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman said the incident occurred around 1 p.m. today and that the suspect’s motive for the attack is still under investigation. The perimeter of the Capitol was temporarily locked down following the incident.

Robert Contee, acting chief of the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, said there is no evidence to suggest the incident was a terrorist attack.

However, there are reports that some of Green’s online messages in March revealed a degree of desperation and paranoia. He described himself as unemployed and suffering from health problems, and referred to notions of doom and gloom. He wrote that he was facing “unimaginable trials” and was now on a “journey to find his soul.

In one of his articles, he mentions that he was disturbed by the FBI and CIA, was hospitalized and suffered from “mind control” and called the government “the number one enemy of black people. He also claims to be a follower of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
