A man in Washington, D.C., attempted to drive into Capitol Hill on Friday (2) afternoon and crashed into two police officers, who fired to stop him and arrested him, but he was taken to the hospital and confirmed dead. One of the police officers was confirmed to have died, and the other was injured. Police once blocked the Capitol Hill, and said the incident is not related to terrorist attacks.
White House spokesman Pusaki said President Joe Biden was aware of the incident, but at the time he was not in the White House, but at Camp David for the Easter holiday, the White House flags at half-mast to mourn.
The incident occurred at about 1 p.m. local time, Capitol Hill police said all congressional buildings have been sealed off because of an “external security incident,” and all employees are not allowed to enter or leave. A police spokesman said a driver tried to drive through the Capitol Hill northern roadblock on Independence Avenue, he got out of the car with a knife and did not follow instructions, rushed two police officers, and finally was shot and subdued, three people were sent to the hospital. The police officer who died in the line of duty was William Evans, who has served on the force for 18 years.
Police have sealed off the Capitol and directed all people in and around the Capitol to stay inside and away from doors and windows until the threat is lifted.
