The French newspaper Le Monde has exposed that the French journalist who published an article in the Chinese official media “does not exist”.
“Buwang” said he was a Frenchman who had lived in mainland China for seven years. “He said that “by chance, I had the opportunity to live in Urumqi (the capital of Xinjiang Autonomous Region)”. “Buwang” also said he had visited Xinjiang in 2014 and 2019, claiming that “I do not think that the Xinjiang described to me by others, is the place I know.
The French newspaper Le Monde reported that there is no journalist named “Buwang”. The Le Monde reporter checked with the French Professional Press Council, which issues French press cards, and found no registration for “Buwang” in its database. In his profile, “Bouwong” said that he had worked in various media in Paris and had studied art and archaeology at the Sorbonne in Paris, followed by a master’s degree in journalism. “Buwang” had worked in Paris as a journalist and was theoretically registered, but the Le Monde reporter found no information.
Another official Beijing media, China Radio International (CRI), published another commentary by “Buwang” on Wednesday (31). “Buwang criticized French MP Richard Li, a member of the ruling Republican Progressive Party (RPP), for his “ridiculous” plan to visit Taiwan this summer to study Taiwan’s achievements in fighting the Epidemic, and encouraged French lawmakers to cancel exchanges with Taiwan.
Nadège Rolland, a senior researcher at the U.S. think tank NBR, and Antoine Bondaz, a researcher at the French Foundation for Strategic Studies, said that the journalist named “Buwang” does not exist. It is “inconceivable” that the Chinese Communist Party‘s official media would use a fake journalist to publish an article, claiming that “Buwang” could interview himself.
