The World health Organization (WHO) released a report on its previous investigation into the origin of the New Coronavirus in China.
The report alleges that the virus could not have been leaked from the Wuhan laboratory and that the South China seafood market was not the original site of origin of the virus, to which former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reacted sharply, tweeting a blast at WHO Secretary General Tan Desai for conspiring with Chinese Communist President Xi Jinping to hide the human-to-human transmission of the virus. “He accused the Wuhan Virus Laboratory of being the “most likely source of the virus” while the WHO conspired to conceal the facts.
Pompeo tweeted Tuesday that the report released by the WHO is a continuation of the Chinese Communist Party‘s hoax with the WHO disinformation campaign. “This is why I advocate that we withdraw from the WHO.”
Pompeo also condemned WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus for helping the Chinese Communist Party cover up the outbreak, saying, “Tan conspired with Xi (Jinping) to conceal human-to-human information at a critical Time. The Wuhan Institute for Virus Research (WIV) remains the most likely source of the virus.” Pompeo also denounced the WHO as complicit in the Chinese Communist Party.
Pompeo had previously raised the possibility of the virus leaking from the Wuhan Institute of Virus on several occasions. He released a U.S. fact-check on the CCP virus on the eve of his departure as secretary of state, stating that several researchers within the Wuhan Virus Institute became ill in the fall of 2019, before the first case (of the CCP virus) was confirmed. These researchers had symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and common seasonal illnesses.
Transmission of the virus from animals to humans has also been countered by virologists. Robert Redfield, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under former President Trump, told CNN March 26 that he believes the virus leaked from the Wuhan lab, but that the leak was not necessarily intentional.
As a virologist, Redfield questioned the notion that the virus was passed from animal to human, saying it doesn’t make biological sense that the virus was passed from animal to human and could spread so well from human to human.
“My view is that I still think the most likely cause of this disease in Wuhan is the escape (of the virus) from the laboratory.” Redfield further elaborated, “Others don’t believe that. That’s OK. Science will eventually figure that out.”
“That’s my opinion,” he said, “but I’m a virologist, and I’ve been dealing with virology my whole Life.”
He said he did not make that statement with any intent.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the U.S. has “real concerns” about how the WHO report was produced and how it was written. “including concerns that the Chinese Communist authorities “helped write the report.
In a statement, Rep. James Comer (R-Texas), the ranking Republican on the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, said, “The WHO report is nothing more than a product of the Chinese [Communist Party] propaganda machine. From the beginning of this investigation, the CCP has had permission from the WHO to manipulate the report’s data to exclude U.S. scientists and to reach the report’s final conclusions. This is a blatant attempt by the Chinese Communist Party to alter reality and cover up the truth.”
