Gates denied the allegations on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Tuesday night, arguing that Pensacola, Florida, attorney David McGee is a suspect in the blackmail. Over the past several weeks my family and I have been victims of an organized criminal extortion involving a former DOJ official seeking $25 million while threatening to smear my name.
We have been cooperating with federal authorities in this matter…

“It’s a terrible accusation and it’s a lie,” he said. “The New York Times published a story that I traveled with a 17-year-old woman, and that is verifiably false. People can look at my travel records and that is not the case. What happened was an attempt to blackmail me and my family involving a former Justice Department official. on March 16, my father received a text message asking for a meeting with a man who demanded $25 million in exchange for horrific sex trafficking charges against me.”
“Our family was very troubled by this. We went to the local FBI,” Gates continued, “and the FBI and the Department of Justice were so concerned about this blackmail attempt on members of Congress that they asked my father to wear a tracker, which is what he did to former Department of Justice officials. Tonight, I’m asking the DOJ and FBI to release the recordings that were made under their supervision and direction, which will prove that I’m innocent, which will show that these allegations are false. They were only made to try to break my family.”
He added, “Originally my father was supposed to contact this former DOJ official tomorrow in order to talk about specific instructions for this extortion payment advance of $4.5 million.” “I don’t think it’s a coincidence that somehow tonight’s leak, which is being leaked by the New York Times, is tainting me and undermining the investigation. It may well lead to a former colleague in the current Justice Department being tried and brought to justice for attempting to blackmail me and my family.”
Carlson asked Gates who was the person who attempted to blackmail him, and Gates named David McGee. “His name is David McGee,” Gates replied, “and he is the top prosecutor in the Northern District of Florida leadership. He currently works for the law firm of Beggs & Lane. In fact, one of the recordings made at the request of the FBI and the Department of Justice took place at that law firm, and the money due today will be further evidence of McKee’s involvement in this extortion scheme. And the extortion scheme was foiled by the New York Times story, and I believe that’s why this terrible information and terrible allegations were released tonight.”
Gates speculated that the story was leaked to the New York Times as a way for authorities to sweep the investigation under the rug.
“What was supposed to happen is that the money would have been transferred tomorrow, which could have involved former colleagues of current U.S. Justice Department officials,” he said. “But obviously, that’s not going to happen tomorrow because the New York Times story was leaked to sweep that investigation under the rug. So the next thing that needs to happen is that the FBI and the Justice Department have to release the tapes that they have that were done under their direction. These tapes will show that I am innocent and that the whole concept of the sexual allegations against me is really just a way to try to cost my family money and to smear my name because I’m known to be an outspoken conservative, and I don’t think anybody is doing that in a lot of places in the United States right now.”
In an interview with U.S. media outlet Axios, Gates said, “I believe some people in the Justice Department are trying to criminalize my sexual conduct.” But he was “unclear” about the specific charges and was told “very little. He did, however, show Axios screenshots of text messages and emails he said were part of the blackmail scheme.
