Two huge foreign bodies appear in the mantle layer, and scientists have no solution

Scientists found two special boulders buried beneath the Earth’s mantle, their density is about 3.5 percent higher than that of the surrounding rocks, and the chemical composition inside is also different from that of the surrounding mantle, which should be two large pieces of material from other planets.

One of the study’s lead authors, Qian Yuan of Arizona State University, said the two extraterrestrial objects are wrapped around the core from both sides, “like the Earth wearing a pair of headphones.

LISTEN TO NEWS.

Researchers analyzing seismic wave data found the two “foreign bodies,” which are called large low-shear-velocity provinces (LLSVPs) because their propagation velocity always decreases when seismic waves travel through these regions. LLSVPs).

The Earth’s mantle is a layer of rock about 1,800 miles thick, located between the Earth’s crust and core, containing up to 84% of the Earth’s total material mass. These two foreign bodies are buried deep inside the mantle layer. Both are almost 620 miles thick and thousands of miles long each, and are “the largest self-contained material in the Earth’s mantle”.

One is beneath the Pacific Ocean and the other beneath West Africa. Together, the two pieces of material have the mass of six moons, with a total volume of about 8% of the mantle layer. They are large enough to weaken even part of the Earth’s magnetic field.

Scientists do not know how these two large rocks from outer space got inside the Earth. One theory is that they are a few pieces of material mixed in from other planets during the evolution of the planets at the beginning of the formation of the solar system.

This is basically true in terms of Time. The age of the Earth is about 4.5 billion years, and these two foreign bodies have been on the Earth for almost 4.5 billion years, suggesting that they are exoplanetary material that was mixed into the Earth’s structure at the beginning of the Earth’s Life.

Some scientists speculate that at the beginning of the formation of the Earth, these two pieces of extraterrestrial material and the Earth “fused together” in order to release a specific chemical composition for the Earth to build a natural environment suitable for the breeding of life.

Other scientists speculate that there may be other similar materials “mixed in” from other worlds deep inside the Earth, waiting to be discovered.

The research was presented at the 52nd Lunar and Planetary Science Conference.
