With the expansion of vaccination coverage for China’s new crown (CCP virus), news has emerged that many places are requiring mandatory vaccination, causing dissatisfaction.
According to Taiwan‘s Central News Agency, social media, including Weibo and Zhihu, have recently seen a number of posts from netizens showing local official or unit documents requiring them to be vaccinated on a mandatory basis, causing a lot of complaints.
In one case, the government of Yantai, Shandong Province, issued a document requiring university students, faculty and logisticians to “receive as many vaccinations as possible,” and each unit to achieve a vaccination rate of more than 95 percent. The Fujian Anxi County Epidemic Prevention and Control Office also issued a notice requiring all county authorities, enterprises and institutions to complete vaccination by April 2; otherwise, the main person in charge would be interviewed.
Some women who were approved by their units to prepare for pregnancy were asked to be inoculated before getting pregnant; women who were breastfeeding were also interviewed for vaccination, and some units even ordered to change their jobs if they were not inoculated immediately.
As of March 29, a cumulative total of 110 million people have been vaccinated in mainland China, but the rate of vaccination still lags significantly behind that of Western countries such as the United States.
