Pompeo: Top priority is to focus on 2022 midterm elections

In every list of potential Republican candidates for the 2024 presidential election, in addition to Trump (Trump), former Secretary of State Pompeo is also at the top. But Pompeo said in an interview with the U.S. media that he is not thinking too much about the 2024 election yet. He will focus on the 2022 midterm elections to help Republicans take back control of the House and Senate.

Pompeo is not an ordinary former secretary of state. He was a central figure in the implementation of Trump’s “America First” policy and served as CIA director at the beginning of the Trump Administration.

He said that the Trump administration’s America First policy has made it possible for all ethnic groups to go out and work, focus on the U.S. economy, secure the border, and give everyone a chance to work; and that America First benefits both the United States and the world, and that only when freedom is guaranteed, when the United States is fearless, bold, and strong, will the entire world benefit.

Pompeo was recently interviewed by the American media Newsmax. He insisted that he is not thinking too much about running for office in 2024 at all. Instead, he said he is focusing on next year’s midterm elections to ensure the Republicans have a big comeback to retake control of the House and Senate.

“I’m going to devote my Time to this fight to make sure we retake the House and hopefully the Senate by 2022 as well.” He told Newsmax.

“A Republican (controlled) Congress will really provide a place, a backstop, to resist what President Biden intends to do.” Pompeo said. He also explained that what Biden is trying to do is in large part allow the radical wing of the Democratic Party to dominate his domestic agenda.

Pompeo recalled his years as a Republican congressman from Kansas. He emphasized, “We have to take back the majority. If we take back the majority, and we do in the Senate, it will be transformative for the American people.”

Pompeo is expected to announce the list of candidates who will receive his endorsement soon. He has already traveled to Omaha, Nebraska, to raise money for Republican U.S. Rep. Don Bacon (R), kicking off his 2022 agenda.

“Don is an Air Force veteran and I’m a veteran of the military.” Pompeo said.

Pompeo also said he will help Don and others win the election.

As an example, he said, “I have endorsed my friend and former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders in the Arkansas governor’s race.”

Sanders is running in a primary against conservative Leslie Rutledge, Arkansas’ state attorney general.

Pompeo emphasized that he thinks a contested primary is a good thing.

Pompeo said it’s good when you have multiple conservative candidates. They should promote their ideas, and they should fully explain what they can do.

“At the end of the day, it’s the results that matter.” He said.

Pompeo said he expects to assemble a team to help him campaign for Republican candidates for the House and Senate across the country. So far, he said, his chief political adviser is his wife, Susan.

Pompeo also praised the excellent work of Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.

“I think she’s done a great job,” he told Newsmax, “and I think she’s done a great job as a leader of the Republican Party and is helping us succeed.”

Pompeo also stressed the importance of government non-interference with families. He said, “Whether it comes from what we read when we were young or from what we observed when we were older, it’s so important for families to live their lives without government intervention. I certainly hope so in my heart, and I hope it’s an important part of the conservative movement today.”

While Pompeo did not specifically discuss whether he would run for president in 2024, he said, “When the time comes and it’s necessary for Susan and me to consider running for president, we will do it.”

“Now is not the time.” He said.
