The 800,000-word book by historian Yan Zhihua, “A Chronicle of the Rural Communist Movement in Fuling District, Sichuan Province – 1.4 Million Villagers Starved to Death in the Cages of the People’s Commune”.

In the 1950s and 1960s, the Communist Party’s Great Leap Forward led to the “Great Famine” that wiped out Life and limb across the land, killing at least 35 million people unnaturally. “. Yan Zhihua uses the historical facts experienced and verified by many people involved as arguments to restore the real scenes of rural society under the Communist Party’s rule for more than 30 years (1947-1978) with realistic strokes, subverting in many ways the false perceptions of scholars within the Chinese Communist Party system and Western sinologists about the series of political, economic, educational, and cultural social Yan Zhihua’s work from 1990 to 1978 is a very good example of how the Chinese Communist Party’s social reform movement has been perceived.

Yan Zhihua spent 26 years from 1990 to 2016 visiting nearly 20 counties in the two former prefectures of Sichuan Province, investigating more than 100 people and witnesses (mostly victims) from the Communist Party secretary down to the production captains and ordinary members of the people’s commune; reviewing a large number of historical archives and related materials to write this regional history of China, which is also a serious academic work. It is a serious academic work.

The book says that the history of the Communist Party’s rule in mainland China from 1946 to 1978 is also a history of political campaigns, which means fixing people, harming them, killing them, and looting their property. The book makes it a point to recount the five-year period from 1958 to 1962, when the Communist Party launched the Great Leap Forward campaign for economic construction, the People’s Commune Movement, the anti-rightist movement – the campaign against Food concealment in the countryside and the resultant huge famine and starvation; it also describes the agrarian reform and township rebellion, the three rebellions and five anti-rebellions, the unified purchase and sale of grain, agricultural cooperation, the People’s Commune Movement, the Great Famine, and the Great Plundering. The book also describes the history of several nationwide political movements, such as the Agrarian Reform, the anti-civil war, the three anti-fives, the grain purchase and marketing, the agricultural cooperation, the communalization of the people, the rectification of the society at the end of the famine, the four clean-ups, the agricultural study of the Great Walled City, the construction of the third-line military industry, the Cultural Revolution, and the “batch of double clean-ups” after the coup of Hua Guofeng.

The book is a history of the suffering of hundreds of millions of Chinese peasants during the 30 years from 1949 to 1978, and a history of blood and tears. It is worth reading because it gives a detailed quantitative analysis of the Communist destruction of the countryside and agriculture, the cruel oppression and exploitation of the peasants, and a true record of the persecution of many peasant families and individuals by the Communist Party, including the plundering of their property, the criticism, the tying and hanging, the arrest for labor, the killing, etc. It has a high historical and academic value.

Yan Zhihua, a parishioner of the Rock Church, said that Yan revealed the historical truth of the Time, so that people can understand the harm brought by communism, the disaster brought by the Chinese Communist Party to the Chinese people, and awaken people’s conscience, “The Communist Party not only brutalized the people in the past 100 years, but now the Chinese Communist virus is ravaging the world, also because of the Communist Party’s concealment and lies about Wuhan pneumonia, which led to the Communist Party virus spread all over the world and brought profound disasters to people all over the world.”

Dong Yongpo, a democrat, said the book is a historical testimony of the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of the Chinese people, who suffered under the Communist Party’s rule and are now having a harder time; he hopes more Chinese people with conscience like Yan Zhihua will come forward to expose the evils committed by the Communist Party against the people.

Since August 2020, the Chinese Communist Party has stopped paying Yan Zhihua’s pension after he published a book to expose the truth about the Chinese Communist Party’s famine. Yan Zhihua said this is another evidence of the CCP’s persecution of people and shows the CCP’s fear of the truth.
