International condemnation of China’s heavy-handed treatment of Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang has been rising in recent years
Marc Garneau says he went to school with bullies who are too soft and too soft to be kind, and that the best way to deal with bullying is to stand up to it. Canada will not only confront international bullying by the Chinese Communist Party itself, but will also coordinate its actions with allies who share a common vision of democracy and human rights to do more to speak out against the Chinese Communist Party in the future.
Recently, Canada joined the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union and other countries in imposing sanctions on four CCP officials for their tyrannical treatment of the Uighur Muslim population in Xinjiang, including banning the officials from entering the country and confiscating their property.
However, Marc Garneau, Canada’s Liberal federal government foreign minister, still appears to be cautiously worded when it comes to the Chinese Communist Party.
Canadian political observers believe that relations between Canada and the Chinese Communist Party are in a highly sensitive state as a Chinese Communist Party court has just concluded the espionage trial of two Canadian citizens, Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig.
