Britain is undergoing a major reorganization of its military resources that will see a sharp reduction of about 10,000 soldiers. However, this refers to human soldiers, and an important aspect of this restructuring will be a major investment in robots, Drones and other high-tech military tools.
According to the BBC, by January this year, the British army had about 80,000 soldiers, which is already much less than a decade ago. The new plan intends to gradually cut the number further to about 70,000 by 2025 by waiting for soldiers to retire, leave and not add new recruits.
However, the UK will invest more military funds in areas such as drones and combat robots, gradually expanding the proportion of high-tech military resources in the force structure.
The strategy also includes strengthening cyber military forces, expanding the size of the U.K. Defense Department’s cybersecurity program, and establishing a space command that functions like the U.S. Space Force.
The Washington Post also reported that the U.K. also intends to significantly increase the number of nuclear warheads.
The BBC said the restructuring plan is aimed at transforming the British military more strategically in the face of emerging technologies and a changing military landscape, rather than just expanding the establishment.
