The Ever Given container ship has run aground in the Suez Canal, causing a four-day interruption of shipping in the waterway. Two more large ships will be dispatched to assist in the operation, the goal is to get the Chang Chi ship out of trouble tomorrow night.
The ship’s hull is about 400 meters long and 60 meters wide. On the 23rd, when sailing through the Suez Canal in Egypt, it ran aground under the influence of strong winds and sandstorms, and could not move in or out, causing the canal navigation to be blocked, and the global cargo trade lost about 400 million dollars per hour (about 11.4 billion NT).
Although the owner of the ship has assigned two professional rescue teams from the Netherlands (Smit Salvage) and Japan (Nippon Salvage) to board the ship, planning how to effectively float the ship, as soon as possible to help get out of the shallow, the Egyptian authorities also sent eight large tugboats, trying to get the ship out of the stranded riverbed, but still stuck in place.
The Nikkei reported that Japan Shoryu Kisen Co., Ltd. held a press conference today, and a number of senior executives bowed in apology for causing “great trouble and concern”. President Higaki Yukito said that 10 tugboats have been deployed to remove the mud, but still can not solve the problem, is expected to dispatch two more large ships to assist in the operation, the goal tomorrow night to let the Chang Chi ship out of trouble.
For the stranding incident compensation issues, Zheng Rong steamship stressed that the rescue of the cargo ship is the most urgent, will contact the insurance company for discussion, and will give a reply after receiving the bill.
