According to the Wall Street Journal, the Spanish-based international human rights group “Defenders” has sent a 32-page complaint to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) alleging that China’s official China Central Television (CCTV) broadcasts false information on its channels in the United States.
The organization pointed out that the content of dozens of programs of China CCTV between 2013 and 2019, including forced television confessions, violated the relevant guidelines of the U.S. international broadcasting, and asked the U.S. communications regulator to investigate and punish China CCTV in this regard.
It is reported that Protective Guard was also involved in an earlier complaint in the U.K. that led to the revocation of China’s official global television network (CGTN) license to broadcast in the U.K. in February of this year. The organization has also launched similar complaints in Canada, Australia and other countries.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Federal Communications Commission confirmed that the complaints have been received and are being considered.
