The U.S. military today (23) pointed out that China’s satellite, which was launched by a Long March rocket in 2019, was confirmed damaged on March 18 of this year and has now split into 21 pieces, with the cause of the damage unknown.
The U.S. space force’s 18th Space Control Squadron (SPCS) pointed out that on March 18, 2021, it was confirmed that the “China Yunhai No. 02” satellite was destroyed and split into 21 pieces scattered in near-Earth orbit, and these fragments are important to space flight safety. The U.S. military is continuing to track the direction of the debris, and related analysis is still underway.
It is understood that the Chinese government successfully launched the China Cloud Sea No. 02 satellite at 8:54 a.m. on Sept. 25, 2019, from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center with a Long March 2D launch vehicle.
Chinese officials pointed out that the main role of the “China Cloud Sea No. 02” satellite is to detect the atmosphere, the ocean environment, while monitoring the space environment, in science, disaster prevention, disaster mitigation and other uses, this satellite launch mission at the Time was the 313th flight of the Long March series of launch vehicles.
