On Thursday, Trump’s legal team held a press conference, Breitbart reported on Nov. 19. Rudy Giuliani and other attorneys representing the Trump presidential campaign outlined their case Thursday that there was serious fraud in several key swing states in the Nov. 3 presidential election, so the results should be overturned and the president should win the election.
Giuliani said there was a pattern of alleged irregularities in key states, which he said indicated a “scheme from a centralized location” to commit election fraud in Democrat-controlled cities.
The widespread use of mail-in ballots, he said, allowed Democrats to corrupt large cities across the country. “They chose places where they could get away with it.”
Here are the main allegations made by the attorneys.
1. observers were allegedly prevented from watching the opening of mail-in ballots. Giuliani said that many of the mail-in ballots were opened so that observers could not check to see if they were properly signed, a key protection against fraud. The ballots were “invalid,” he said, especially in precincts where the envelopes had been discarded, making a recount useless.
2. Allegedly, the law is not applied equally in Democratic counties. In Pennsylvania, where the state Supreme Court established new, lenient voting rules prior to the election, Giuliani alleged that absentee voters in Democratic counties could “correct” defects on their ballots, while voters in Republican counties could not, because Republican county voters were subject to state law.
3. Voters allegedly arrived at the polls only to find that others had already cast their votes. Giuliani said that many of the provisional ballots dropped off in Pittsburgh were submitted by people who showed up in person to vote, only to be told they had already cast their ballots. He alleged that Democrats filled out absentee ballots for others, hoping that they would not vote in person.
Election officials were allegedly told not to look for flaws in the ballots and to postmark late-arriving ballots. Giuliani cited an affidavit from an official who swore she was told not to exclude defects in absentee ballots and to postmark late-arriving ballots to make it appear that they were not received after Election Day in order to avoid a Supreme Court order excluding them.
5. It is alleged that ballots cast for Joe Biden went through the voting machine several times, but ballots cast for other candidates did not do so. Giuliani said that there were 60 witnesses in Michigan who could testify that the ballots were quickly “canned” and counted twice or three times. He said between 60,000 and 100,000 ballots were allegedly compromised.
Wisconsin accepted absentee ballots without first requesting them. Giuliani noted that Wisconsin law is stricter on absentee ballots than most other states, but 60,000 absentee ballots were counted in the Milwaukee area and 40,000 absentee ballots were counted in the Madison area where voters did not apply for ballots in the normal way.
7. “Over voting” was alleged, with some precincts recording more voters than residents, among other problems. Giuliani said there were unusually high levels of over voting in Michigan and Wisconsin precincts, which he alleged was why Republicans on the Wayne County Board of Canvassers refused this week to certify results there. He also alleged that there were some out-of-state voters in Georgia, and that people voted twice there.
8. The voting machines and software were allegedly owned by companies with ties to the Venezuelan regime and left-wing donor George Soros. Attorney Sidney Powell argued that U.S. votes were counted overseas and that the Dominion voting machines and Smartmatic software were controlled by foreign interests that manipulated the algorithms to change the results. Powell specifically notes that Smartmatic’s owners include two Venezuelan nationals, whom she alleges have ties to the regimes of Hugo Chavez and Nicolás Maduro. The legal team alleged that there were statistical anomalies, such as the large number of ballots cast for Biden, that could not be explained except by manipulation, which they alleged occurred in the early hours of the morning, when the counting had stalled.
9. The Constitution sets out the procedure for electing a president in the event of fraudulent ballots. Attorney Jenna Ellis argued that the media, in her view, had usurped the right to declare the election winner. She cited Federalist No. 68, which states that the process for electing the president is established in the Constitution with procedural safeguards against corruption and foreign influence.
Giuliani said the campaign believes enough votes are flawed – more than double the gap between Biden and Trump in key states – for the president to have a path to victory.
Giuliani produced affidavits as evidence, citing two affidavits and noting that the campaign had many more from private sources.
He pointed out that several of the dismissed lawsuits were filed by private individuals, not directly by the campaign. He said lawsuits may be filed in Arizona, and the campaign is also examining violations in New Mexico and Virginia.
Giuliani also lashed out at the media for providing misleading information and condoning threats against Trump’s legal team.
