Japanese Army mulls all-army drills, worried about safety of Diaoyu Islands

Japan’s Land Self-Defense Force is studying between September and November this year to conduct a large-scale national exercise, once determined to be held, will be the interval of 28 years again to implement the national scale exercises, is expected to put almost the full force of the Land Self-Defense Force about 140,000 people.

According to a report by the Central News Agency today, Japan’s Land Self-Defense Force intends to hold 140,000 people drill, almost the entire force. The report cited the Okinawa Times, Japan, the exercise scenario of Japan’s outlying islands and other situations, mainly focusing on China’s frequent activities around the Diaoyutai Islands (Japan’s Senkaku Islands) and other situations, in the face of an increasingly challenging security environment, the intention to show resistance and control.

The exercise site is still undergoing final coordination. The Ministry of Defense said that the exercise was held on a national scale four times in the past, and this will be the second Time since entering the Heisei era (1989 to 2019).

According to The Japanese Ministry of Defense, the last national-scale exercise was held in 1993, with a total of about 140,000 people participating in the 3-week exercise period.

The report said that the Land Self-Defense Force conducted the largest exercise in the northern and western front teams last year, with a total of about 16,000 to 17,000 people participating; the exercise expected to be held this fall will involve more than eight times the number of people.
