According to the California Secretary of State’s Office on March 19, the ninth tally of signatures on the petition to recall Governor Newsom (February 6 to March 11) has verified 1,454,710 signatures, with more than 1.18 million (1,188,073) valid signatures and more than 260,000 (266,637) invalid signatures, for a valid signature rate of 81.7 percent.
Orange County volunteers submitted their signature forms for the last Time before the March 17 deadline.
The Recall Newsom civic group announced on March 17, the signature deadline, that over 2.17 million (2,177,730) signatures had been collected and that a new gubernatorial election would be held if the number of valid signatures reached 1.5 million (over 1,495,709, or 12% of the last gubernatorial ballot). At the current average efficiency rate, the number of valid signatures would be over 1.5 million.
Signatures were collected from 58 counties throughout California. Four counties in Southern California collected the most signatures, but these four counties also have a lower effective signature rate than other counties.
Los Angeles County had collected more than 220,000 (221,090) signatures as of March 18, with more than 180,000 (181,846) valid signatures and 39,244 invalid signatures, an efficiency rate of 82.2%.
Orange County collected more than 160,000 (167,515) signatures as of March 15, with more than 130,000 (131,752) valid signatures and 35,763 invalid signatures, an efficiency rate of 78.7%.
Riverside County collected more than 150,000 (155,387) signatures as of March 18, of which more than 120,000 (127,258) were valid and 28,129 invalid, for an 81.9 percent efficiency rate.
As of March 18, San Diego County has collected more than 150,000 (150,052) signatures, of which more than 110,000 (115,802) are valid and 34,250 are invalid, with an efficiency rate of 77.1%.
