The Dutch government summoned the Chinese ambassador to the Netherlands the same day in response to the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s announcement of sanctions against four EU institutions and a list of 10 people, including Dutch parliamentarian Schelzma, AFP quoted a Dutch Foreign Ministry spokesman as confirming on March 22. The Dutch Foreign Minister is expected to give a detailed explanation of the circumstances surrounding the summoning of the Chinese ambassador later on.

The EU foreign ministers’ meeting officially launched the human rights sanctions mechanism against China and adopted a resolution to impose sanctions on Chen Mingguo, the head of the Public Security Department of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, Wang Mingshan, the former head of the Department, Wang Junzheng, the deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region and secretary of the Party Committee of the Xinjiang Construction Corps, and Zhu Hailun, the former secretary of the Xinjiang Political and Legal Committee, as well as the Public Security Bureau of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
Rep. Scherzma said via Twitter the same day that he would not remain silent until China stopped targeting the Uighurs for genocide.
