In comprehensive news, China’s oil imports from Iran and Venezuela have increased significantly, challenging the U.S. Biden administration’s foreign policy.
According to the Wall Street Journal, data from commodity data firm Kpler indicate that China’s oil imports from Iran reached an estimated 918,000 barrels per day in March, the highest value since the U.S. imposed a full oil embargo on Iran two years ago. Other agencies believe the value could be 1 million barrels per day.
Iranian oil industry expert Sara Vakhshouri noted that if this value is correct, Iran has no incentive to negotiate with the United States. She says this against the backdrop that the U.S. is trying to restart talks with Iran to force it to abandon its violations of the nuclear deal.
Meanwhile, China has seen an increase in oil imports from Venezuela. Reports suggest that the increase in oil trade between Beijing and Washington’s two top enemies is a major boost to already strained U.S.-China relations.
