Lakers star James (LeBron James) is injured! He was fighting for a lost ball in the 2nd quarter against the Hawks when Hawks forward Solomon Hill crushed his right foot and twisted his ankle at a wide angle, sending James to the ground in pain. James retired shortly thereafter and did not return. X-rays revealed no fracture, and an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) was required. The Hawks ended up winning 99-94.
James’ ankle injury raised concerns, and teammate Kyle Kuzma said, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen him scream in pain like that, not even with his groin injury, which must have been painful.” Head coach Frank Vogel was reluctant to talk much after the game, “We’re just disappointed to lose the game and thinking about how to get it back tomorrow. I will not disclose the status of James, all the information I have so far is that he has an ankle injury.”
James had caused a furore in the United States for his comments
LeBron James (LeBron James) is the star of the Los Angeles Lakers. He has a huge fan base in the United States and China. He has 49.4 million “followers” on Twitter alone and more than 80 million followers on Instagram.
On Oct. 5, 2019, Rockets GM Morey retweeted an image with the words “Fighting for freedom, with Hong Kong“. The tweet, which was later deleted, prompted a Communist Party blockade of the Rockets and the NBA and a subsequent backlash in the United States.
On Oct. 14, LeBron James criticized Daryl Morey’s tweet in support of pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong, according to Voice of America.
James, who returned from a visit to China with the Lakers before their preseason game against the Golden State Warriors, told reporters at Staples Arena in Los Angeles, “I believe that he (Morey) is either uninformed or uneducated about this situation.”
He said, “So many people are at risk of being hurt, not just financially, but physically, emotionally, spiritually. We have to be careful what we tweet, what we say, what we do. Although, we do have freedom of speech, that can have many negative consequences.”
James tweeted, “My team and this league just had a tough week. I think people need to understand how a tweet or a statement can affect others…”
James’ comments sparked an uproar in the United States.
In response to James’ comments, Boston Celtics’ Turkish center Enes Kanter expressed disbelief, “Oh my God! Dude, do you know what you’re talking about? Stupid.” “Freedom is not free, okay?”
Missouri Republican U.S. Senator Josh Hawley tweeted back at James, “Have you ever been to Hong Kong? Been to the streets there and seen the protesters? It’s hard for people to accept this kind of garbage like this. LeBron, do you know anything about the ‘situation?’ Why don’t you go to Hong Kong? Why don’t you go meet the people who are risking their lives to fight for their most basic right to freedom?”
Florida Republican U.S. Senator Rick Scott tweeted Tuesday (Oct. 15), “Did the NBA have a bad day last week?” “Bad days for millions of Uighurs held in re-Education camps by the Chinese Communist Party. The people of Hong Kong who are fighting for human rights and autonomy had a bad week last week.” “You’re right, James. People need to know what a tweet or a statement can do to others.”
Republican U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska said in a tweet Monday, “James, you are parroting the propaganda of the Chinese Communist Party. The Chinese (Communist) state is running the torture camps and you know it.”
“Loud to the U.S., knee-jerk to the Chinese (Communist) state.”
According to the United Press, critics argue that James has at times in the past targeted the black civil rights movement, racial discrimination, democracy and human rights, police brutality… The company’s main goal is to provide the best possible solution to the problem, but the company is not willing to accept it. Questioned James double standard “loud to the United States, to the Chinese (Communist) country on the knees”
“First you say you ‘don’t understand the situation’, but then you accuse Murray and the league of speaking without clarity… But what exactly are you trying to figure out? How do you know Murray didn’t get it right? “”Ask James: Who can be hurt by simply posting a picture of ‘Fight For Freedom Stand With Hong Kong’? You must be more noble than Hong Kong people for wearing ‘Black lives are lives too’ and ‘I can’t breathe’ (protesting and showing solidarity with Eric Garner, the black vendor who died after being arrested by NYPD in a chokehold)? ”
