The number of Hong Kong immigrants to Taiwan has increased dramatically since the implementation of the Hong Kong version of the National Security Law
Since the implementation of the Hong Kong version of the National Security Law last year, the unstable political environment in Hong Kong has set off a wave of emigration from Hong Kong people. According to the latest figures released by the Hong Kong government’s Census and Statistics Department, the net emigration from Hong Kong last year was as high as 39,800 people. on March 18, the Taiwan Land Commission said that the number of Hong Kong people applying for residence in Taiwan last year exceeded 10,000 for the first Time, and the numbers of settlement and residence also hit a new high since 2016.
The number of Hong Kong applicants for residence in Taiwan last year totaled 10,813, up a whopping 84.6 percent from 5,858 the year before, a record high since 2016, said Taiwan’s Land Commission Deputy Director Chiu Chui-ching on March 18. He added that the fact that so many Hong Kong people still came to stay in Taiwan under the control of the Epidemic is related to the situation and changes in Hong Kong. Taiwan will continue to pay close attention.
Statistics from the Taiwan Immigration Department show that since the Hong Kong version of the national security law officially came into effect, the number of cases of Hong Kong people migrating to Taiwan surged last July, and the number of people granted residence permits in Taiwan rose from 397 in June last year to 715 in July; especially the figures from October to December last year soared to 1,974, 2,027 and 1,312 respectively.
An immigration company consultant pointed out that Hong Kong people want to immigrate to Taiwan in quite a variety of ways, can depend on the immigration of relatives, that is, immediate Family members, investment immigration, entrepreneurial immigration, technical immigration and study abroad immigration. As Taiwan has relaxed the technical immigration in recent years, the success rate is higher, the approval time is faster.
