The U.S. National Security Council on Artificial Intelligence (NSCIA) has warned that the United States is overly dependent on semiconductor imports, especially from Taiwan, and this will make the U.S. economy and military strategy affected. U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo met with semiconductor executives yesterday (19) to prepare to deal with the problem of semiconductor shortages.
Comprehensive foreign media reports, Raimondo pointed out in a statement, “As Secretary of Commerce, my top priority is to deal with the semiconductor shortage, as well as investment in U.S. semiconductor manufacturing technology, and look forward to working with leaders such as the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).” Raimondo said she met with members of the Semiconductor Industry Association Board of Directors and that the outcome of this meeting was effective, with content discussing the importance of U.S. semiconductor innovation and manufacturing. She noted that “semiconductors are the 4th largest U.S. export industry, and that is very important to our economic competitiveness and national security.”
As a result, Raimondo emphasized, “Expanding investment in U.S. domestic manufacturing, R&D and manpower is key to helping the United States strengthen its position as a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing and innovation.”
