What kind of country is India? Many people have the impression that India is a relatively poor country, and curry, Ganges water and multiplayer motorcycles are synonymous with India.
Under the influence of the 2020 Epidemic, India’s economy has declined severely, but a number of excellent companies have indeed emerged in India in the past decades.
The Fortune 2019 World 500 list has seven Indian companies on the list, namely Reliance Industries, Indian Oil Corporation, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation of India, State Bank of India, Tata Motors India, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, and Rajesh Exports.
Talking about India’s world famous brands, we have to mention Jaguar and Land Rover of Tata Motors India. Tata Motors is the largest private company in India with annual revenue of over 100 billion dollars.
Jaguar and Land Rover originally belonged to the British enterprise, and later was acquired by the United States Ford merged into one division, in 2008 the financial crisis gripped the automotive industry was hit, Ford to ease the financial pressure, sold Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo, Volvo was acquired by Geely, Jaguar, Land Rover was acquired by India Tata.
After being acquired by India, Jaguar and Land Rover landed in mainland China in 2010, especially Land Rover performed well in the mid- to high-end market in mainland China.
Another major brand in India belongs to Bollywood. In recent years, Bollywood movies have been entering the international market, such as “The Three Stooges”, “Wrestlemania! Dad”, “Slumdog Millionaire” and other films are widely acclaimed.
In 2017, the relevant statistics show that India ranks first in the world’s film production at the rate of producing 1,000 films per year, and the global audience of Indian films has surpassed that of Hollywood.
India’s film production base is not only Bollywood, but also the other four “docks”: Tollywood, Kollywood, Mollywood and Sandalwood.
In the global economy, India’s other calling card is IT! India is known for its IT outsourcing, and even the CEOs of US tech giants like Microsoft and Google are Indian.
India’s IT outsourcing leader is Indus, which employs over 100,000 people in 27 countries worldwide.
In the 2019 India’s Top 100 Most Valuable Brands released by Brand Finance, a world brand assessment agency. Indus is ranked third, the first is Tata Group and the second is India Life Group.
Apart from the above international brands, there are really not many well-known brands in India.
Why are there not many internationally known brands in India? Internationally known brands are rooted in manufacturing. India has a large young workforce, but it has not yet helped India become a manufacturing powerhouse. One factor is constrained by India’s private land ownership system. 70% of Indian land is privately owned, and it is more difficult for companies to obtain land.
Indian manufacturing has its own problems, but we need to recognize that India has such a large population base that it is not surprising that more world-renowned brands will develop in the future.
India currently does not have many international famous brands, but some companies already have considerable strength, India’s comprehensive strength can not be underestimated, is the world’s fifth largest economy, and, India has the world’s second largest population, in the near future will certainly exceed mainland China, become the world’s largest population countries.
