U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis of Florida has introduced a resolution urging the United Nations to take the necessary and appropriate action to remove China (the Chinese Communist Party) from the UN Security Council.
Not long ago, Florida Republican Congressman Gus Bilirakis introduced a resolution urging the United Nations to take the necessary and appropriate action to remove China from the United Nations Security Council. He said such action is long overdue given Communist China’s horrendous human rights record and continued bad behavior on the world stage.
This week, Bilirakis laid out some of the reasons for removing the CCP from the Security Council.
For more than four decades, the United States has sought to make China (the CCP) a responsible partner on the international stage by expanding its economic engagement with China,” Bilirakis’ office said. Too often, U.S. foreign policy has turned a blind eye to the bad behavior of Communist China. This approach has been a complete failure. In the past year alone, China (CCP) has violated an international treaty, undermined the democratic freedoms of Hong Kong citizens, and continues to oppress ethnic and religious minorities (most notably Uighurs, Tibetans, and Falun Gong practitioners), expand its military, commit aggressive acts against regional neighbors, violate the sovereignty of other countries at sea, and engage in deadly skirmishes along the Indian border while grabbing land .”
The communist virus pandemic has been going on for a year now, killing large numbers of people worldwide and hitting the global economy hard. This was also noted by Bilirakis’ office: “Most alarmingly, the Chinese Communist Party has also suppressed medical professionals and withheld vital information and data about the Chinese Communist virus (COVID-19) from the world. The CCP’s mismanagement and lack of transparency regarding the spread of the CCP virus undoubtedly exacerbated the spread of this deadly virus, ultimately leading to a global pandemic that killed more than 2.6 million people and caused catastrophic economic hardship around the world.”
The congressman’s office also accused the Chinese Communist Party of repeatedly and grossly violating the core values stated in the preamble of the UN Charter. The preamble to the UN Charter reads: We the peoples of the United Nations determined to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbors.
Bilirakis also expressed his views on the resolution. He said, “Communist China is not our friend; in fact, China (the Chinese Communist Party) is a greater threat to our national security than any other country. It is Time for us to take a new approach to interacting with China (CCP), and removing this repeated human rights violator from the UN Security Council is a step in the right direction. We must continue to hold China (CCP) accountable for its bad behavior and take a firm stand that further misconduct will no longer be tolerated.”
The parliamentarian said, “Throughout history, humanity has encountered many faces of evil. As members of the international community, we, the member states, should unite to show our brightest and greatest moments and work together to recognize evil and destroy it. The darkest moments we face as human beings are in those who stand silently knowing its evil, making excuses for inaction, allowing injustice to exist, and ignoring the persecution and rampant abuse of the population. The United States must continue to be a beacon of principle and courage, recognizing and promoting basic human rights for all. If we remain silent in the face of these evils, we will ignore this requirement placed upon us by moral standards, and in doing so will endanger civil society as a whole.”
The resolution has now been sent to the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, but it will take a process to get lawmakers to all vote in favor of it.
