Mexican police convoy ambushed and shot at 13 police bodies piled on the roadside

Rodrigo Martinez Celis, director of the Central Mexican State Security Service, said at a press conference on March 18 that a patrol consisting of members of the Mexican State Security Service and the Public Prosecutor’s Office was patrolling in multiple vehicles that afternoon in the city of Coatepec Harinas when it was The criminal group’s ambush attack.

Photos from the scene show that the police cars were riddled with bullet holes and the bodies of 13 police officers were dumped on the side of the road in a bloody and brutal scene.

According to the BBC, the place where the police were attacked is a gathering place for various criminal groups and one of the most violent areas in Mexico.

Police noted that before the attack, the convoy was regularly patrolling the neighborhood to combat the sporadic armed gangsters.

Martinez Celis said the attack was a “humiliation” to Mexico, “we will hit back with all the force and the law.” The local government will work with the National Guard, the Ministry of Defense and other departments to carry out operations to catch the attackers.

It is known that at least 500 police officers were murdered in Mexico in 2020.
