After the military coup in Burma, the anti-coup protests in many parts of the country have been brutally suppressed by the military, killing more than 200 people so far, including some Chinese, and affecting many Chinese businesses. However, in Shan State Special Region of Upper Burma, where the Chinese gather, Life has not been affected.
Mr. Liang, a Chinese taxi driver in Wa State, the second special zone of Shan State in Myanmar, told the Epoch Times that his special zone in Myanmar does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Myanmar military government, so nothing is happening now.
“I am now in Upper Burma, that (unrest) should be in Lower Burma, our side is fine. This side of Burma is ruled by warlords and is not under the Burmese government.”
Mr. Liang said that his Upper Burma is full of Chinese people, speaking all Chinese, all in RMB, and there are many local people from Yunnan, Sichuan, Hunan, Fujian and Guizhou, and there is no exclusion of Chinese, “the exclusion of Chinese people (place) is Lower Burma.”
Mr. Liang introduced that it is easier to earn money on this side of Myanmar, and there are many more opportunities than at Home in China, so he has been here since he was 9 years old, and also studied here, and now drives a taxi for a living. But also often go back home to Sichuan, this year encountered the epidemic did not go back.
“Some Time ago the city was closed for two months, and now we have the second shot of vaccine, the vaccine sent over from China. Wa, the most serious time of the epidemic are Chinese medical teams over here to get, what is China is helping.”
Mr. Liang said that due to the outbreak of the epidemic, the city was closed from November 20 last year to January 31 this year. People were not allowed to go out and had to be quarantined at home, and soldiers patrolled the streets with guns on their backs.
“Those soldiers, with guns on their backs, patrolled the streets, and those who did not obey were beaten, so no one dared to go out on the streets. Really beat, kicked, beat. Over here to beat you up, because it’s a special time.”
As far as he knows, 330 people are infected locally, and basically all those diagnosed are Chinese. “It’s because someone was smuggled into China, China found out (about the infection), and then the city was closed over here.”
Mr. Liang said he lives inside an apartment, and the gate outside the apartment is sealed, but the residents can walk around inside the apartment. Food is available, and everything is expensive.
“Just when the epidemic grabbed things, pork are fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty (yuan / catty) are selling, rice is also the original fifty, to sell a hundred two hundred, are on sale.”
Mr. Liang introduced, he used to go back to China are through the smuggling, because it is too much trouble to do the customs procedures, when the control is also not strict, “everyone over is also smuggled, back is also smuggled.”
“A river, the border is very long, hundreds of kilometers, they river width is just more than ten meters, the water is not too big when walking can pass.”
Mr. Liang said that every year, the smuggling over is estimated to be more than 100,000 to 200,000 people. “Some of the people who come over to do business, open a department store, and open a restaurant well, and open a hotel, massage parlors those are Chinese. Basically, all the stores on the street are Chinese. Chinese people earn Chinese people’s money.”
Mr. Liang said, he opened his own taxi, a month of income a little higher than China’s domestic, there are 30,000.
“Domestic can not earn (so much), cab fare is higher than domestic, the starting price is thirty. Everything is high, it’s all of us Chinese in cabs, the locals don’t sit, it’s too expensive.”
