“It sickens me to see the Capitol attacked by hostile forces,” Bush Jr. recently said, but “over Time, the populist movement has begun to dissipate,” reports The Gateway Pundit.
This year, the former President Bush Jr. partnered with the South by Southwest Music festival (SXSW) to promote his new book, “Out of Many, One: Portraits of America’s Immigrants,” and he gave an interview to the Texas Tribune.
In the interview, Bush said the Jan. 6 protests “disgusted” him and “made him sick to his stomach.
He then went on to slam the pro-American populist movement behind the rise of President Donald Trump, saying, “History and America have shown that these populist movements have begun to dissipate over time.”
And Bush Jr. praised the incredibly high turnout that put Joe Biden in the White House.
It’s easy to see how this guy left us with Obama and a Democratic supermajority in Congress, the report said.
The Texas Tribune reports.
The former president said that while he’s concerned about the scale of anger toward the administration, he’s heartened by the high turnout in the 2018 and 2020 elections.
“It shows the vitality of democracy,” he said.” It’s a clear sign that people want to be engaged in the system and they’re willing to go to the polls.”
“Look, politics has always been uneven …… And right now, we’re in a period, though, when there’s a lot of anger in the system, and that makes people worry about the future of our democracy.” He said.” I think it will eventually come out of the system.
“History and what’s going on in the United States shows that these populist movements will start to dissipate over time, so I’m optimistic about democracy.”
When asked if a Trump-led federal government puts democracy at risk after the 2020 election, Bush’s answer was another word: “No. (NO).”
He said, “What puts democracy at risk is the ability to spread …… on the Internet the ability to do all kinds of things,” and “but the checks and balances work. It’s a, you know, (it’s) a balanced system. The courts work, the legislative process needs a little work, especially on immigration reform …… No, I think the system is working well.”
