Recently Southern California Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego Taiwan associations launched to support Taiwan fruit farmers, group purchase “dried pineapple” action, get an enthusiastic response, two or three days order has been burst single, had to close the order early.

The group purchase was initiated by FASCA overseas youth volunteers Orange County Branch, etc., specially selected “Taiwan some” dried pineapple (150 grams package, $9.5), through the air to the United States. The San Diego Taiwan Center was one of the participating organizations.

One of the directors of San Diego Taiwan Center, Shi Zhengping, told the Epoch Times that there were nearly 800 packages of dried pineapples ordered through the center, and as far as he knows, there were also about 800 packages ordered through the Taiwan Presbyterian Church in San Diego. Together with the order of several associations in Orange County and Los Angeles, the order was soon burst.

Shi Zhengping said, since the end of February after the rumor that China banned the import of Taiwan pineapple, Taiwan Center received many people asking how to help. At present, fresh pineapple can not enter the United States, some people thought of ordering dried pineapple from Taiwan.

At the end of February this year, the General Administration of Customs of the Communist Party of China issued a notice without warning to suspend the import of Taiwan pineapples since March 1 on the grounds of repeated detection of harmful mesocosms.

About 10% of Taiwan’s pineapple production is exported every year, and over 90% of the export market is in China, exporting 40,000 to 50,000 tons of pineapples to the mainland every year in recent years.

Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen launched the “all people eat pineapples” action and give farmers subsidies. In addition, there are also a lot of domestic enterprises from Taiwan and international support. 2 March, Taiwan Agriculture Committee Chairman Chen Jizhong said, the domestic and foreign sales combined has more than 40,000 metric tons, this year “the number of purchases is expected to exceed the number sold to China last year”.

Although the pineapple farmers got a lot of support, Shi Zhengping believes that this is not a long-term plan after all, the next will not be bananas, guavas, or other products?

Shi Zhengping analysis, there are a lot of Taiwanese people choose to do business with China, one is the language is convenient, the second is usually, China’s inspection is not as strict as Japan and other countries. And some people will swarm to plant a certain product once they hear that it sells well in China. He also said that some Taiwanese, with the mentality of “loving China”, take many Taiwanese varieties to China to grow, which also causes China to no longer need to import these products from Taiwan.

Shi Zhengping believes that Taiwan should make efforts to open up other markets. He also hopes that through this incident, the people of Taiwan will be more awake and not forget the hidden dangers once the fire is extinguished, and not just long for the future without looking at the reality. The reality is that when you do business with a communist country, they will do whatever they want and use some inexplicable reasons to screw you. Therefore, if you are greedy for immediate benefits, you will be pinched.

Zhang Boyang, director of Taiwan’s Kijin Information Department, said in a Facebook post that Beijing‘s blocking of Taiwan pineapples was a manifestation of the Chinese Communist Party‘s strategy of “raising, trapping and killing” after goldenrod, camphor, Christmas red and grouper, and that it was a retaliatory “closing the net”.

Zhang Boyang said, after the 2005 Communist Party forum, China will be Taiwan pineapple import tariff reduced to zero, to promote Taiwan’s export market concentrated in China. This not only allows Taiwan pineapples and other agricultural products sold in large quantities to China, its cultivation technology also came to China at the same Time. When Taiwan’s trade is dependent on the Chinese market, the Chinese Communist Party can “close the net” at any time and make the agricultural trade an actionable political issue.
