Hsiao-Ki returns wealth

The word “Cai” alone contains the double meaning of “Bei” and “Cai”. In ancient China, it was a kind of primitive currency, and it was only used as an equivalent in the exchange of commodities. Talent, which contains the meaning of virtue, qualification and talent, involves a wide range of meanings. In other words, just having “bei” cannot be called “wealth”, but must also have certain talents and wisdom as the support of “bei”, in order to become a complete The word “wealth”.

In ancient times, it is said that a gentleman loves money and takes it in the right way, and this “way” contains the meaning of morality. After talking about the meaning of wealth, let’s take a look at a good story accomplished by Xiaoji’s return of wealth.

Zhang Xiaoji was a scholar in Xuchang of the Song Dynasty. After he grew up, a rich gentleman in his village liked his talent and married his daughter to him. The rich man had only one son, a playboy look, all day long, roaming the streets of the countryside, play and play, very bad. One day, the rich man saw him all day wander, is really unworthy, in a rage, the son thrown out of the house, and he broke off the relationship between father and son.

Later, the rich man got a serious illness. He saw that his son-in-law, Hsiao-ki, was a generous and loving man, and before he died, he gave all his property to him. Hyoji buried his father-in-law properly like his own son. He followed his father-in-law’s instructions and managed the house in a well organized manner.

After the rich Family‘s son was kicked out of the house, he became a beggar in the countryside and had to beg for a living because he could not support himself. One day, he was begging, just happened to run into Zhang Xiaoji. At that Time, the beggar did not know xiaoji; xiaoji recognized him. If it is a normal person, completely can pretend not to know, quietly leave, and will not be criticized. But hyoji did not do that.

When Hsiao-ki saw him so down and out, he was so upset that he asked him, “Can you water the garden?” The rich man’s son said, “If I can water the garden and make a living, that’s fine.” Hyoji let him water the vegetable garden. He did well in this small task, and gradually got rid of his poor appearance and was able to earn his own living.

When Hyoji saw the change in him, he was also surprised and asked him again, “Can you manage the warehouse?” He said, “I am already satisfied that you let me water the garden, but now you let me manage the warehouse, and if I can really do that, I will be very lucky.” So the rich man’s son took over the job of managing the warehouse and acted in a very careful and disciplined way without any mistakes.

After observing him carefully for a period of time, and knowing that he was able to reform himself and not to commit the same mistakes of eating, drinking, and playing, he returned to his son all the property that his father-in-law had given him back then.

Although Hyoji legally inherited his father-in-law’s family fortune, he wholeheartedly helped his father-in-law’s son reform when he was down and out so that he would be able to inherit his father’s business, and returned all of his father-in-law’s family fortune to him without embezzling his father-in-law’s family fortune.

This story is a good interpretation of the meaning of “Cai”, and it also fits the original intention of the word “Cai” when it was created!
