When Hyoji saw the change in him, he was also surprised and asked him again, “Can you manage the warehouse?” He said, “I am already satisfied that you let me water the garden, but now you let me manage the warehouse, and if I can really do that, I will be very lucky.” So the rich man’s son took over the job of managing the warehouse and acted in a very careful and disciplined way without any mistakes.
After observing him carefully for a period of time, and knowing that he was able to reform himself and not to commit the same mistakes of eating, drinking, and playing, he returned to his son all the property that his father-in-law had given him back then.
Although Hyoji legally inherited his father-in-law’s family fortune, he wholeheartedly helped his father-in-law’s son reform when he was down and out so that he would be able to inherit his father’s business, and returned all of his father-in-law’s family fortune to him without embezzling his father-in-law’s family fortune.
