Newsom was dismissed by 2.1 million people

On Wednesday, March 17, the signature collection phase of the “Recall Gavin 2020” campaign in California officially ended, and the number of people who signed up to support the recall of California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom reached 2.1 million statewide. In the face of the strong public opinion, the party Newsom recently responded.

On March 6, volunteers set up a “Recall Newsom” sign-up site in Chino Heights, where a large number of voters showed up to sign up for the recall of Gavin Newsom.

On March 15, Newsom tweeted that the civil campaign was a party-led recall, and said he would not be distracted by the recall, but would fight it.

He also included a link to a “Stop the Republican Recall of Governor Newsom” website funded by the California Democratic Party. The site describes the Californians who started and support the “Recall Newsom 2020” campaign as “a group of Republicans, Q-Anon conspiracy theorists, anti-immigrant Trump supporters” and others.

However, according to a screenshot of a survey posted on the Weasel Zippers website on March 16, 52.45 percent of the signatures from Los Angeles County in support of removing Newsom were from Democratic voters, 24.95 percent from unaffiliated voters, and 17.15 percent from Republican voters.

California Republican Party Slams Newsom Response

Newsom’s and the California Democratic Party’s response was not only attacked by the California Republican Party (CAGOP), but also caused strong dissatisfaction among California voters.

In a statement, California Republican Party Chairwoman Jessica Millan Patterson said Newsom is the worst governor in California history. She said, “The fact that California’s elitist Governor Newsom just called the more than 2 million hardworking Californians who signed the petition to remove (Newsom), including Democrats, Independents and Republicans, a bunch of white supremacists, Q-Anon supporters and militias, shows how desperate he is. He is completely out of touch with ordinary Californians, with Californians who are extremely disgusted by his grossly incompetent policies and disgusted by his hypocritical behavior.”

Patterson also shouted at Newsom: “The reason more than 2 million Californians signed the recall petition has nothing to do with race. Here’s why you’ll be removed and replaced, which includes: California has the highest poverty rate in the country; Newsom puts his own children in private schools while 6 million schoolchildren deal with distance learning; Newsom’s (leadership) unemployment agency pays benefits to death row inmates; Newsom attends a birthday party at a fancy restaurant while the rest of the state is on lockdown; and since the Epidemic began, more than 19, 000 businesses have closed and millions of Californians have lost their jobs; there is a backlog of one million unemployment claims, but Newsom’s (led) unemployment agency has given away a whopping $31 billion in fraudulent payments; California has the most hobos and the highest gas prices and tax burden in the nation; and Californians pay the highest energy bills in the nation.”

California voter Mike, who signed the petition to recall Newsom, also said, “If you (Newsom) don’t know why we want to recall you, then you have another level of skill in telling lies and hypocrisy. Restrictions on our freedoms, outrageously high taxes, a burgeoning homeless population, and a sluggish California economy because of all the restrictions you keep changing, while you yourself live in your own world. That alone is enough for us to support your recall.”

Other volunteer voters said Newsom is trying to scandalize public opinion, but the truth about the recall is, “We are all grassroots. We, the people, want to take back our state. Supposedly 38 percent of the signatures collected were from registered Democrats, so bye bye Newsom.”

2.1 million people signed a petition in support of removing Newsom

Since taking office in 2019, Newsom has experienced several civic-initiated recall actions against him. Especially since the start of the epidemic last year, private citizens have been particularly unhappy with Newsom’s policies, and have contributed to a growing number of Californians signing a petition to remove him from office.

The latest figures show that Newsom is likely to face a special election as a result of the recall campaign.

After the official deadline of March 17, the “Recall Newsom 2020” campaign announced that it had collected 2.1 million signatures, and that under California election law, a special recall election could be held if there are about 1.5 million valid voter signatures in favor of removing Newsom from office.

Currently, all signatures have been submitted to each California county registrar of voters for signature verification, with April 29th being the last day for each county to verify signatures.

Over the past few months, the “Recall Newsom 2020” campaign has been moving forward simultaneously in counties across the state, with more than 80,000 volunteers participating in collecting signatures. One L.A. County volunteer, Ms. Lui, who has been involved in the recall of Newsom many times, said that during the past few months of collecting signatures, she has noticed that the number of voters who have come out to support the recall of Newsom has been regardless of party affiliation, ethnicity or age.

She said, “I’ve encountered many times, many people who signed and then said ‘I’m actually a Democrat. There are even some people who have a criminal record or just got out of jail who want to come and sign, but they don’t meet the requirements for the levy, but it just proves that Newsom is really too out of touch with the people.”
