Republican Congressman’s Bill to Test Illegal Immigrants for Viruses Voted Down by Democrats

Breitbart News reports that Democrats blocked a bill introduced by Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (D-Texas) that would have forced the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to test all illegal immigrants released into the country for the virus.

Meeks’ office noted that as of March 8, the federal government had released 185 illegal immigrants into Brownsville, Texas, who tested positive for the C.C. virus.

The conservative Iowa congressman’s office also said that current law does not require Customs and Border Protection (the Customs and Border Protection) or Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to test illegal immigrants for the CCP virus. Customs and Border Protection reportedly encounters more than 3,000 immigrants a day, which is close to the level of the 2019 border crisis.

Speaking on the House floor Tuesday night, Meeks said, “This week, I visited El Paso, Texas, and met with Customs and Border Protection agents and officers, and I saw firsthand the crisis they face, and I believe it’s our job in Congress to help them solve it. About 50 percent of the agents tested positive for the CCP virus, and very few immigrants were tested for the virus. “

My bill would require every immigrant released by Customs and Border Protection, or Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to be tested and only those who test negative would be released,” Meeks said. “

Meeks added, “Border security and immigration issues don’t just affect border states, they affect every community across America. By ensuring that individuals entering the U.S. are virus negative, we can help keep our communities safe and healthy.”

However, the House vote was against the Iowa Republican’s legislation, with a vote of, 212 against and 200 for.
