The Oxford/AZ Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) vaccine is suspected of causing blood clots, and many European countries have announced the suspension of the vaccine. In this regard, the World health Organization (WHO) today (17) again issued a statement that the symptoms of blood clots in AZ vaccination is very “rare” (rare), and continued administration of the vaccine “more good than harm”, countries should continue to vaccination.
In the statement, WHO pointed out that it is not unusual for countries to experience adverse reactions to vaccines, and that this does not mean that adverse reactions are related to the vaccine, while venous thromboembolism is the third most common cardiovascular disease worldwide.
The statement also pointed out that WHO regularly liaises with the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and drug regulatory agencies around the world to collect the latest information on vaccines, and the WHO Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety (GACVS) is carefully reviewing the data on AZ vaccines and will make the results available to the public as soon as they are completed.
